What day of the week is it? Any others to know about? Looking for live music at the beach.

Hi Dawn
Sapphire beach party is on Sunday.
Great food, a lot of people, great bands, dancing and of course people watching. Many locals attend. Don't miss it. Sit on the beach till mid-afternoon and wait for the crowds to arrive.

Will it still be on Sunday over the Memorial Day Weekend?

You may like looking into this. Iggies is a beach bar at Bolongo Beach Resort that does a "Carvinal Night" on Wednesdays. They serve food starting at 6:30 and the show starts at 8:00pm - I called them. We haven't been but plan on going in April.

When I called Iggies they said it cost $29 for adults and $19 for kids. This is to sit at a table and eat the buffet. Iggies does not serve their regular menu during Carnival night.
You can just show up for the show starting at 8pm for free. You are not permitted into the restaurant area for a table but you can order drinks (those aren't free though) from the bar.

Can anyone describe the Carinival Night festivities? What goes on?
Where does it take place (on the beach??)? If we are seated at the rail in the restaurant, can we easily view the show?

We went to Iggies on a Wed night in July and they were packed, the food

is typical buffet' we loved the meat pates and they had a great band from St Croix our grandkids loved the Mocko

Jumbie (?correct name) dancer who also did the limbo, walked on glass and swallowed fire.

I don't know how I got these spaces!

It's just so neat to sit outside at a picnic table in the sand and have the water so close. They also have inside dining which is open air, but you can find small shells at this beach. We feel it is well worth the price and will go again in March.

They also have local artisans selling their homemade jewelery, paintings and a lady who does a decorative alphabet using local plants
and birds, its pretty to get a name done in this and she is very fast
or will deliver to your hotel Hope this helps.

Bluwater - a seat in the restaurant is OK, but if there is a huge crowd, then people will be standing on the beach and those seated at the tables may or may not be able to see. If you want to sit at a picnic table, and don't want to deal with the benches, just ask one of the staff to get you a regular chair.

During the meal, while Sammy Watts' band is playing, the staff sets up individual chairs on the beach just for those seated inside. Sammy starts playing at 6 and the show starts at 8 and is generally over around 930, and Sammy plays until 10. There is also a dance contest, and the winners get a bottle of Cruzan rum - used to have a Bolongo label on it (not sure if it still does or not). The music part I know because I can hear it every Wed night from my apartment (overlooks Bolongo) 🙂

Depending on how busy it is, and how many are in your party you may be seated 'cruise style' - having worked as hostess on the floor, it was always fun to see how that went. *I* never had a bad match up. Your best bet is to get there around 6 or a tad earlier to get your choice of tables. If you have a party of 6 or more, then a reservation is preferred, and more than likely you will be seated on a picnic table on the beach, down in front for the show.

Unless the food has changed, they have kalaloo, fungi, one each of a beef (sometimes pork), fish (whatever is in season - sometimes Mahi, sometimes Tilapia) and chicken dish....several salad choices (green as well as pasta) and several dessert choices. I am glad to see they dropped the price - it USED to be $39/$10 - WAY too much IMHO.

If I have left anything out - don't hesitate to ask more questions 🙂

-k

Is the show on the beach? If you don't do the buffet can you see the show from the bar? Also, is there seating at the bar?

Hi, everyone. Heading to St. Thomas and St John in April...April 14th to the 21st to be exact. (Didn't realise that not only is it school vacation but it will be Easter week as well!) Taking 3 kids with us (13, 13 and 16) so I want to plan ahead a bit. Will there still be a beach party at Sapphire beach on that Sun??? We are staying at Crystal Coves. Thanks for all your help, I've learned so much from this forum...can't wait!
