Hello,
Can anyone comment on your experiences on spending a day at Sapphire Beach? We are a family of four, who will be in port in mid August. We want to go to a nice, safe, and clean beach. We love to snorkel, and want to be able to have access to food/drinks and a bathroom. We have read on other boards some mixed reviews about Sapphire. It looks beautiful! Will it be easy to get a taxi to and from this beach? Any suggestions for Sapphire or perhaps recommending another beach. Thanks in advance.
We had a lovely time on Sapphire Beach. Snorkeling was wonderful, and the water was just beautiful! The views of St John in the distance was mesmerizing. Beautiful day overall-weather was sunny and just perfect. The kids enjoyed the beach, and snorkeling. We hated to leave, but we knew we would return to Sapphire Beach again! Thanks for all of your help! Our cruise was wonderful, despite missing the port of Antigua due to our early itinerary change due to Hurricane Bill. All went well, and we had spectacular weather and 2 days of calm seas sailing back to Fort Lauderdale! Thank goodness Bill took that turn to the north! We''ll keep hoping for a calm hurricane season for all! Thanks so much for all of your suggestions I learned so much!
come and stay for a week next time

I took my Dad to Sapphire Beach and the coral was so bad he cut his knees when he fell getting out of the water. One of the best beaches is not Sapphire Beach....Try Brewers Bay Beach. There is a video on youtube.com of Brewers Beach "Unspoiled Beach" it is one of the best beaches anywhere and I have traveled the world.
Your dad should not have been anywhere near coral as he was getting out of the water.
This is in defense of the negative comments made about Sapphire Beach.
The first thing is that in all the time I have been there (some 25 years) NEVER has anyone said that it was a poor beach due to coral. So you are a FIRST! There are signs at BOTH ends of the beach advising people NOT to touch the coral or disturb the marine life. There is a ton of space between the north side and the south side of the beach that has NO coral at all. Just grass. In fact it probably was not coral that he cut himself on because most of the coral is dead mainly to inconsiderate people touching it and walking on it and the warmer water we have now.. He probably cut himself on the rocks that are close to the beach and probably on the Sapphire Resort end (south side) . Either way reading is a critical factor and following the LAW is also important. But using your head is even more important.
I would hope that you take this into consideration before saying that Sapphire Beach is a poor choice for people.
Have a good DAY!

Wow, I've been to Sapphire and I've never had a problem at all. Where in the world would he cut his knee on coral???
How can coral be "bad"? It's there, alive, or it isn't and if it's there and alive then just STAY OFF OF IT!
There's a Brewers Beach on Tortola that is quite beautiful, but if we are talking about Brewer's Bay (out near the UVI) then I would take Sapphire Beach over that beach. There are many gorgeous beaches on STT, including our fave, Lindqvist, but Sapphire will always be one of our favorites.
No way dear ol' dad cut his knee on coral getting out of the water. Sounds to me like he was swimming too close around the point and hit the reef with his knee. We really don't need people here who don't have sense enough to stay off the reef.
