Anyone know how to get down to the beach at Santa Maria Bay by road ?
Long arduous hike, helicopter drop-off or humvee 6-wheel drive? Sorry to be facetious but why? Again, sorry and who knows but that you might just get an intelligent response! Cheers!
Thanks stt resident , Is the beach worth visiting by boat , do you know ?
Honestly I don't know. The Atlantic side in that area is very rocky and although Santa Maria looks on any map to be quite large, it's very rocky and forbidding and a far cry from the gentle waves and sandy beaches generally associated with STT. Pleasure boats generally avoid the North side of the Island. The swells and currents can be very uncomfortable to say the least which is why the majority of pleasure craft traverse the Francis Drake channel.
Even if you could make it comfortably to Santa Maria Bay by boat you're going to have to pick a spot to drop anchor because as far as I know there are no mooring buoys there and I would guess the wind is going to create a problem for you even if you're a very seasoned boater.
Worth it? How so? Again, sorry if I'm sounding facetious but to take the time to try and reach a rocky bay such as Santa Maria either by foot, car or boat is going to be a total pain in the ass, fraught with frustration and potentially dangerous. It;s a rocky inhospitable bay forged from volcanic rock and subject to the continual pounding of the Atlantic ocean.
If I haven't answered your question, sorry. Cheers!
