Yes, I'm back again. We know by know I'm a VI Virgin, but I am just trying to make sure I get the best out of my visit 🙂

Here is the situation: I would like to see Sandy Point. I got all the info down and know everything and will visit on a Sunday when it "should" be opened. So I searched and searched and search and all I see are directions coming from the east. Well, I have that down but yet again have multiple questions, lol. I will try to put the questions in appropriate order (and if it is not obvious yes with me asking so many questions, YES, I AM VERY EXCITED AND STILL 3 MONTHS AWAY!!!) And yes, trust me, my husband is already freaking out with how much I search on stuff, and I do find most answers but I am just looking for more specifics 🙂

1) Which side of Sandy Point has the clearest water??? The east, the west, or the southern tip??? Looking at google maps it looks like south or east, but I cannot confirm this

2) Which side has the most waves??? East, west, or southern tip?????

3) Long question: I am zoomed way in on google maps and it looks like the southern tip and the eastern tip are the clearest and funnest, but I also know the road to get to the east side looks rough and from other forums sounds rough and plus it would be a little out of my way. So I zoomed way in on google EARTH and see the road that sandcastle on the beach is on, which of course is the west side, I see it goes way down south. When you zoom in on google earth you can keep on taking that road south of sandcastle and it looks like there is another hotel or something when the road ends??? The road is labeled Veterans Shore Drive on google earth...... and you see a bunch of parking and that hotel thing??? There are no labels what the place is but the pool is HUGE! I guess I was just curious what that "hotel" or condo thing is on the west side??? Can I park a car there???? I understand it would be about a mile walk to the southern tip from this area, but I was more concerned if it was a "private" area or if you can actually park in this west side southern tip area??? As much as it looks like I would love to see the east side of sandy point, taking that back road on the east side seems like it would add way too much time............ but then again, from what the hubby and I are looking for it looks like the east side of sandy point would be what we want to enjoy more??? I know I'm rambling here, but does anyone have a preference of the east side or west side of sandy point and why???? Again, we will be on island time and relax, but one of us cannot walk that well and walking from the "unknown spot" parking lot on the west side all the way around the southern tip to the east side would not be possible. Also on a side note, we are meeting some people from a cruise ship at Sandcastle so will need to be out that way............ but we are on a little bit of a time schedule............ just not New York time scheduled or island time schedule......... somewhere inbetween, more like midwest time schedule, lol. Did this make any sense???

You can ignore this, I think we are just going to go to Sandcastle and be on the west side and then drive down to whatever that place is as the very bottom on the west side with the big pool that shows up?? I'm guessing we can park there and just walk the mile plus long BEAUTIFUL sandy point???

And so like, if we make it to the southern point walk from the west side and miss the east side completely, well, is the east side of Sandy Point that great and that much different from the west side that I will kick myself for missing it????? Sorry for all the questions, but it is a big beach and looks very beautiful!

The google earth image for sandy point is a few years old. The beach changes annually due to sand erosion and accretion. Wave action, water clarity also vary.

That said, the side of the beach closest to Frederiksted ( officially referred to as the North side or Sandy Side) is the calmest and clearest. Avoid the south shore of the beach since it is usually covered in seagrass. The west beach between the frederiksted side and the south side generallyhas the most wave action.

The walk from sandcastles to sandy point is long and hot in the day. The road to sandy point is completely paved now and all the parking lots are also paved. It is a stones throw from the north beach parking lot to the beach. I recommend driving. The walk is also not the safest either. Crime has been known to happen around "the pool" (public pool area south of sandcastles). Sandy Point is generally safe though if you stay near the parking lot areas.
