Hi everyone
I got back from the best trip of my life. I was in St John about 2 weeks ago and small itchy red bites have surfaced. I'm pretty sure they are from sand fleas. I thought I put on enough bug repellent. Can they show up weeks later? Also does anyone know if they are an unwanted souvenir? Could I've brought them home? I'll live, but how long does it take for the bites to go away? The Internet is not much help, just a bunch of scary bug bite pics.
Thanks for any response! Hope to visit again.

I am not an expert and I've never had this happen but I have heard of many people returning from tropical vacations and getting sand flea bites after the fact. Most people said that they carried dirty laundry back with them that included beach towels that had been sitting in the sand. Perhaps this was a result of your bites upon returning home?! Just a thought!
Sand flea bites last a long time from my experience. & boy do they itch. Mine usually show up a couple days after I have been bitten, but it depends, they can show up later that night.
I can't see 2 weeks later. Maybe someone else on the board knows more about them. Anyone?
They probaby hitched a ride home like Jill said.

yep beach towels, beach bag, cover-up. Assume anything in contact with sand has noseeums. Never come home and plop the beachbag or towels on the bed. Noseeums probably took up residence in your luggage. Treat like any home grown flee infestaion. Bombs or spray. Wash everything. Problem solved.
Thanks everyone for your advise. I washed everything I brought from our trip. So next time I'll try the clear polish, I always carry it with me. What's funny is that I got bit again visiting family in Rhode Island! I'm in Southern Ca. so this is new for my legs. My husband didn't get bit at all on either trip. Any future visitor in humid weather...use bug spray w/ deet during day/ evening and wash your stuff even if you didn't wear it.
Oh how I miss St. John!
Thanks
Bee
I always get the bites and yes I have had them still itching for a couple of weeks! They never bother my husband, so it must be an allergic reaction? Just use caladryl, over the counter anti-itch lotion. I found it's the only thing that works!
