Hi, staying in St Croix and have a 10:30am flight from San Juan on a Sat morning. I am thinking I need to go over to San Juan that Friday night to get to the airport on time Sat morning?. Any suggestions? First time over to the islands not sure of time tables. If I need to go over Friday night any suggestions on a hotel for one night ? I read about the one at the airport but I don't think I would like to be that early for the plane.Thank You for any help I love this board.

I'm doing the same thing in July, and I booked a room at the Holiday Inn Express. I figure we're just going to sleep there, so there's no need to get anything spiffy.

Since I've been to San Juan, I heartily recommend a tour of old San Juan. There are 2 old forts that are World Heritage Sights. El Morro itself is about 500 years old.

On a Friday night the entire town should be alive with revelry. Old San Juan is just a lot of fun at night. Some nights there are live bands playing outside of the hotels with people dancing to the music. There really is no place like San Juan for nightlife.

I agree with you about the Holiday Inn, although I've never stayed there. I've only stayed at the Condado Plaza Hotel which is very nice. Also, downtown is the Wyndham, which looks like a great place to stay. The problem is, both places are $$$$. So if you just want a place to stay, look somewhere else.

John

PS I almost forgot to recommend the Ben and Jerry's in Old San Juan. It's wonderfully decorated. Almost worth the trip all by itself.

I picked a Saturday in April and kayak.com shows American service STX to SJU arrive 9:28am and Caribbean Sun arrive 9:50am.

The web site said it was about 20 minutes from the airport. I found it on the Frommers web site, which I have found to be reliable.
