I understand that some parts of this beach have allowed clothing optional sunbathing in the past. Is is now being allowed or are the park rangers now enforcing the swimsuit only rule?

Isla: If I could have a quarter every time this question gets asked... Public nudity is illegal in all of the US Virgins, as well as most of rest of the Caribbean. You are taking your chances anywhere if the law is enforced or not.

If you want to be "NEKKED" be sure to rent a very private villa.

Yes there is 'some' enforcement of anti nudity laws at Salomon Beach on St John. It is unfortuanate that there is no longer a place in the USVI where responsible nudists can enjoy the sun & surf without wearing a wet sandy swim suit.

The "morals police" seem to make this too much of an issue. Go figure.

F.Y. I We were just there in February and although nobody was naked we did see some officer's patrolling around, I guess that's why everyone had their clothes on.

As mentioned, public nudity is illegal in the USVI. No distinction is made between being nude on a beach and being nude in the middle of Cruz Bay or CA. This doesn't particularly surprise me, as public nudity is also illegal in Massachusetts where I live.

I've seen some crazy semi nude swimsuits at soloman.
One guy was wearing a fishnet banana hammock. Ive seen women topless there too.

If there are no children around, I say go for it, and go nude. just keep your swimsuit nearby.

Is that sort of like a responsible pot smoker doesn't have a place to smoke crack or marijuana in the USVI?

Just wondering where the line is drawn on legallity.

Ah c'mon CariBert, the legal consequences alone demonstrate the significant difference and thus your attempt to raise comparison between an activity as benign as nude sunbathing and drugs is unreasonable.

Oh. I was just trying to figure out which is more illigal. Actually I was not trying to compare anything. I was under the impression that if something is against the law, it is illigal, no matter what the activity. And, by the way, I know a lot of very benign marijuana smokers.

We've been to Soloman Bay and observed Park Rangers cruising by several times and no nude sun bathers. I have no problem with nudity on the beach but I feel much better respecting the laws and customs of the local residents and keep my suit on. It is their home and I certainly would not want to be labeled as one of the "rude tourists" that don't care about the locals and their customs. We go to the Virgin Islands as a get away and do not think that the locals should conform to us but rather us to them. There, my two cents worth (not ment to inflame or insult but simply my feelings).

Islabum: If the risk seems low, I encourage you to give it a try. I certainly plan to do so when we are there, as long as there is not a lot of activity around at the time.

If you're determined to sunbathe in the nude, try Lameshur Beach...you'll probably be the only ones there. Need 4 wheel drive though....

Hey Kurt,
Not sure when you were last at Lameshur, but we were there about 2 weeks ago and there must have been 25 people - words out 🙂

We head down in July or August...haven't seen that kind of crowd during off-season. Guess I'll keep my fig leaves handy....
