Hi everyone,
I Love this site, it has been most helpful! I was wondering if anyone has heard of a private charter called
sailingvirginislands.com (340) 642-2671 My daughter is getting married in St. Thomas and wanted to book a couple trips and she was talking with Danielle from Sailing Virgin Islands. She has to reserve the dates with her credit card so I told her that I would post on this site, to see if anyone has heard of this company. It's always safe to check before passing along any credit card information. They are wanting her to book because they said the days are filling up that she had inquired about, and I just thought this was your slow time? Just trying to check things out. any help will be appreciated.

They operate TREAZZURE a motorsailor from Red Hook STT - it is a slow time of year, but if she has specific dates their answer may be relevant if she wants a private charter and is willing to pay for and reserve all six seats - it is only a six passenger uninspected vessel so there are plenty of other comparative and competitive Sailboats or even Motor Vessels that would be available if a conflict arises or communications break down.

new horizons also offer private tours. If you ask for John and thell them bill D sent you they might discount you an additional 10%.

Renting New Horizons which is a USCG Inspected Vessel and licensed to carry somewhere between 30-40 passengers will likely be a very expensive private charter if you only have 6 or less in your party - [since you are considering Treazzure I am making the assumption there are 6 or less] -- but check it out - it has been a slow season and looks to be a slow summer here.

If you look under, "St Thomas" at the top of this page and scroll down to "daysails" you'll find many options there. If your daughter hasn't done so already, best bet to contact several to see how they "appeal" in their response. She also needs to make sure whether she prefers a motor boat over a sailing vessel. Cheers!

Thanks for all of the info. As far as as a Motor boat versus a sailing vessel?? Could someone tell me the pros and cons for both??? We really don't know much about either. All we know is that we want to have a great and memorable time.

A motor boat will zip you from place to place much faster than a sailboat. That said, the joy to me of being under sail here far surpasses any motor experience. The relaxation of the wind in the sails, the smooth "shoosh" as you skim through the water, being able to hear the gulls crying - all on incredibly beautiful waters - can't be beaten!

Exit Zero wrote to me "TREAZZURE is a motorsailor " so does that mean it is a motor boat or a sail boat???

It's a sail boat and a pretty one too! Joe and Danielle are very nice and fun to be around. They have great food and a good trip.

Larry - I just looked at the site and their video and the TREAZZURE looks gorgeous. I think the answer is that it is a sailboat with a motor to assist when needed.

One thing you might consider is if any of the folks going on the trip(s) are prone to motion sickness. My husband, for example, has no problem with twin hulled boats like catamarans or large motorized boats (like the ferries or car barges, or even something like a Hatteras) but mono hull boats send his head into a bucket and his body into cold sweats- lol. He just learned that hard lesson on the 137' tall ship The Roseway so I can just imagine how he would be on a smaller sailboat. If he ever wants to try a sailboat again we are going to have to get him something very strong for seasickness - like a prescription patch.

Me, on the other hand - I love sailboats. STT Res is right - when they raise the sails and cut the motor and all you hear is wind and birds, it is just so peaceful - you feel like you are flying. I was out on a 43" Beneteau this past trip (not with Hubs that day - lol) and it was so wonderful - but, none of us on board had any issue with the rocking and rolling on a very windy and choppy day around St. Croix. We loved it! We were also sailing on the spinnaker, only, as the captain told us that raising the main under those particular conditions would give us an even rockier ride although a faster speed. They used the motor to get us out of the harbor and back in, on and off anchor and to get through a particularly difficult tack - otherwise we were on wind power. It was glorious for us - for Hubs, it would have been torture!

Just my two cents, anyway -
