I am planning on two sailing excursions on my trip to St. John in late June. I am shooting for two different kinds of outings.
The first will be a quieter (i.e. less people) boating experience in the USVI waters. I am planning to book with Long Distance for this outing.
The second will be a "party boat" excursion to Jost Van Dyke with stop offs at Foxy's and the Soggy Dollar Bar. This is where I would really appreciate some advice. When I was last in St. John, I took the Adventurer for this trip. How does the Adventurer compare to other boats that do the Jost Van Dyke trip? For example, I am also looking into Calypso and Daydreamer.
Help!
Re; Long Distance, be sure to check with the Gallups if they'll still be on St John in late June. They will be off island for a few months this year.
The Calypso is not a boat as we found out. It's a company that must sub-contracgt it's work out.
We ended up on the Daydreamer...a huge boat and there was only 8 of us on. 10 including the crew. It's was unbelievable. We did go to Jost Van Dyke.
We were very lucky because the other boat that people book through Calypso was called New Horizons. It's much smaller and had twice the amount of people.
If you call Calypso for your trip....INSIST on the Daydreamer. The prices were the same for either boat, so we got the deal at $125.00 for the full day.
Thanks for the info. Decisions, decisions...
A great place to find a sailing trip is Connections. Its the local mail information center. They have a list of sailors and will book the trip for you. For day sails look into NoShooz. Fun captain. To go further then Jost youll need a powerboat. There are several along the Cruz Bay waterfront to rent. You can even have one from STT come over to STJ and pick you up for a trip. OceanRunner is a good one on STJ.
