Hello all,
We have bought a volleyball team down to STT the last 3 years from the mainland to participate in a volleyball tournament over Labor Day weekend. Every year we sailed with Captain Dave with Oh Be Joyful Sailing and it was the highlight of the trip. Captain Dave informed me that he won't be around this summer at that time and that is sad for us.
My question is that Captain Dave had a boat that would take all 12 of us out on it at one time. Does anyone know of another sailing company that has a boat large enough to take 12-14 people on it? We are not interested in splitting on two boats.
Any help?????
I've sailed on "True Love" out of STT's Sapphire Marina. It can carry 12 guests - rates were $1,700 per day in high season. Not sure if they sail the low, or what the rate might be. You can also go with an open charter for 12 - at $120 pp, that deal is better = $1,440..again, these are winter rates.
This yacht was featured in the movie "High Society" w/ Grace Kelly, Bing Crosby, Sinatra, etc.... sailing the VI sinc ethe 50s - a really beautiful craft.
She is probably still owned by the Harmony Cottage people.

Best of luck in findng something!
Thanks Bluewater...
I should have provided more details.
Captain Dave took us out for like 3-4 hours each time. We just snorkeled and ate and then came back. It has been a nice and short trip that he has provided for us. I am trying to find a company to do something like that.
I should have been more clear. My apologies Bluewater!
Yeah Dave will be in Venezuela getting his boat rehabbed. The other suggestion I would have is Nightwinds I believe their website is www.sailnightwind.com There are PLENTY of boats that can fit 12 but not many go through the Coast Guard hassle of getting their vessel inspected constantly to qualify for more than 6 passengers.
I hope this helps
Try New Horizons. We went on them and had a wonderful time. I think the captain told me they hold up to 37 people. Fortunately, there were only 6 of us when we went.
You might also try Heavenly Days out of Bolongo, they have a day sail to Honeymoon Beach on STJ which is a quieter beach than some.
I am sure Marcus could help you out on True Love. http://www.sailtruelove.com/home.html
Great sailing and ^^^^BLUWATER^^^^ is correct - there are not many boats that look as good under sail than True Love.
^^^^BLUWATER^^^^ when did you sail on True Love?
Just thought of another possibility they may be more in line what you are looking for. Capt Mike (use to be with Daydreamer) got his own boat and I think his target market is 1/2 day sails. Here is the contact info:
To schedule an adventure aboard the S/V Fury contact captain Mike with Fury Charters via e-mail at [email protected] or by phone at 340-643-7733. http://www.usvisailing.com/
Never sailed with him on his new boat, but highly recommend him as your Capt for a day trip.
Hi Tom,
Fond memories of sailing on True Love about 3 or 4 years ago. Sunset sail out of Sapphire Marina. We motored out of the marina to the open water while passengers were chatting, asking questions, etc - and at the very moment that the sails were raised and the engine was shut off, the entire group went instantly silent - and Louis Armstrong was on the speaker system singing:
"I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world"
It was really a magical moment and the song just summed up the feeling at that moment. Thanks for keeping her in the VI! I look for her each time I visit the marina.
I sailed with him on the Fury in March....great ship....good time. Highly recommended.

We went on True Love in January. My son was a mate on the boat at that time, but now has returned and working on a boat in NC. My wife and I love to sail, and True Love is like no other when the sails are up. She was just out of dry dock and everything was spotless. I watch high society often just to get a glimpse of her (not talking about Grace Kelly), but hey she ain't bad either.
Defintely the boat for those who want to SAIL and snorkle.
We went with Capt Mike on the boat he used to work for and without a doubt the best Capt I have sailed with. And we have done a bunch. I can only imagine that with his own boat - he must be a Happy Man.
Hey all!
Thanks for all the advice! I would not have known any of this stuff as my searching did not produce any of the sail companies you all recommended.
Thanks a bunch!!!
You saved the day!
Mike
Mike,
Lets us know what you decided on and a trip report is a must!
