OK...thanks for all the great info in my last posting. NOW....has anyone stayed at Sago or Windward? Are they nice? Are they private (wife and I have been know to use the hottub au natural!)? lol. Do the have a washer/dryer? They both seem very reasonable. Whats the area like? How far is it from down town Coral? Thanks everyone....this board is a wealth of information.

Go here. Both homes are owned by the same person and the website has the owners (Susan's) email address and she will answer any questions you have.

I know Sago does not have a washer/dryer. I think they also do not have satellite TV, just a VCR for movies. I know the view is spectacular but the ride to both properties is a bit scary (need 4wd). My mother-in-law stayed at Windwardside twice and she liked it a lot. Windwardside has outdoor garden showers and I think Sago does as well. I believe the hottubs are positioned in a private manner so as to go au natural but I am not positive. Sago also has a resident cat that stays outside. Good to know if you are allergic or not an animal lover.

My husband and I are staying in Sago in December. We've only stayed in Cruz Bay previously but always ended up in Coral Bay (Island Blues, Miss Lucy's, Haulover Bay, Crabby's). It only made sense to book in Coral this year. Seems as if there are a lot of affordable villas in Coral Bay. And Sago is wicked friggin' cute.

If you look back a few months there is a string of comments on Sago cottage. However, my husband and I have stayed at Sago for the past 7 years and have loved every visit. Sago is small, but has all the amenities, the best being the view. This is just about my favorite sight in the world. Sago is kind of private, meaning there are no houses in view, but it does sit on the dirt road, but I certainly have no problems running about au naturale on the deck. YOu hear someone comming up the road anyway, and if anyone's walking by, there are trees, bushes shielding you, as long as you don't go on the porch next to the road. The hot tub is hidden from the road so no problem there. The shower is outside so you're running around buck anyway. Again, no washer/dryer, but there is a blender (most important!) for cold drinks, a fridge, Toaster oven, regular stove top for cooking, grill, pots, pans, utensils, etc. all you need. Sago is about eight minutes from Coral Bay, depending on how fast you drive. The road is a bit daunting if you are not used to it, but just pop it in 4wd, go slow, and be careful on the turns. STAY LEF MON! There are a number of kitties that live around the cottage. Most are neutered, as you can tell by their trimmed ear. They are shy of people and you can only touch them if they want you to. Please feed them!! They are very sweet. Susan gets the majority of them neutered so they aren't breeding uncontrolled around the cottage. Good for her, and I wish everybody else on STJ did the same for the strays.
Anyway, there is a TV that you can watch videos on but the view is much more entertaining. There is a radio/cd player and there is a few cd's (the one with Jimmy Buffett, etc is one I left there for all to enjoy!) Books, games, phone. The bed is a little hard for my sorry back, but not too bad. There is an iron and board, Closet, safe for your valuables.
A few tips if you are staying at Sago;
Clean up after meals, the tiny ants can be a problem.
Try not to waste water. There is usually a shortage of water on STJ.
Read the booklet they have there--lots of tips on things to do.
Read the notebooks that previous guests have written in--highly amusing!!
Sit and watch the view-it's breathtaking.
Don't get too close to the edge of the road when going up and down.
Relax, enjoy your partner's company.
Watch the rainstorms coming over the water-may get a rainbow.
Look at the orchids-beautiful.
Make sure to hit the beaches-my picks-Waterlemon, Francis, Leominster, Cinnamon, Haulover(both sides if not too windy), Salt pond. Oh! there is some snorkel gear there too that you can use- but we bring our own. Also, there are some beach chairs to use, cooler, umbrella.
Make sure to keep your fluid consumption up. Lots of tropical drinks.
Go on the hike to Ram's head. Bring lots of water.
If you are in good shape, do the reef bay hike-down AND up!
Most of all enjoy the beauty of this island paradise. We are heading back to Sago in February. I hope to see your entry in the notebook!!!!!

I stayed at Windwardside 2yrs. ago. Fantastic place that far exceeded our expectations! Extremely private, my hubby and I never wore a stitch the entire time we were there even with the guest cottage being occupied. The foliage was enough barrier for both sight and sound(we like our music loud). There was no washer or dryer. Beware that although the villa is only about 3/4 of a mile off the main road it can take 7-10 minutes to navigate to and from the main road. We loved the drive and found it to be fun...... most people find it scary. Highly recommend this place. The only reason I've not rented it again is that we prefer to have a pool, we're not much for the hottub. I have some pics of the villa in my 2004 photo album at community webshots. Here's a link

p.s. most of the "view" pics in that album were taken from Windwardside

WOW...less than 6 hours and a wealth of info....Thanks Lisa, Jo-Anne and Jofus. Do you need a 4x4 to get there or will a regular compact do? We stayed at Siempre Azul last year which is just past Miss Lucys. It has a dirt, rocky road but we managed with a little Ford Focus. Thanks again.

We stayed at Sago a couple of years ago and LOVED it. Views are wonderful and the outdoor shower and hot tub are great. Very "nude" friendly.

Don't try this road without a 4x4. It is worse that the Lameshur Bay Road IMO. I wouldn't drive it, so hubby (who thought it was fun) chauffered us up and down.

Sago will exceed your expectations.

You should have a 4wd. Sometimes, when the road has just been graded it's not TOO bad, but that doesn't happen very often. You could probably manage some of the road, but there are a lot of spots that you will need a 4wd to get up. It's worth it though. Just take your time on the road, don't go barreling up or down. There are some sharp corners and you never know when there will be another car, water truck, donkey, dog, cat, person right around the curve. And pay attention to the edge of the road. I know you'll want to look around, but, take my advice, don't get too close. You ask is this from experience? No comment!! Once you get used to the road it's not bad. My husband usually drives but I have on occasion, and it's kind of fun. FYI, get a compact if you are staying a Sago. The driveway is not very big, and takes a little manuvering to get in and out. You definitely need to try Sago just once. As Linda J. said, it WILL exceed expectations!

I am trying to choose a villa to stay in during my honeymoon next summer and am seriously considering siempre azul and windwardside...do you have any advice for me? Could you recommend any other places for a young energetic couple looking for some R&R, a bit of celebrating and a little exploring?
Thanks

We stayed at Sago but the toured Windwardside. We liked both very much, good views great showers and hot tubs. I liked Sago better, it was more private. But these are great properties run by the owners. I don't think you can go wrong with them. The website gives an accurate discription and pictures.

Good look.

If booking Sago, book way ahead. We've already held it for a week in June 2008! Check the availability calendar on their website.
