Is it safe for a couple to walk around Cruz Bay at night.

My husband and I do and feel perfectly safe. However, we are not out extremely late (I'd say never later than 10-11 p.m.), we don't get intoxicated (which in my opinion can make you a target for someone looking for a robbery victim) and we don't just wander around town. We're usually walking from the restaurant where we just had dinner to a bar, or from a bar back to our car, etc. Use common sense and in my opinion, you will be fine.

I would suggest to read the Police Log on the STJ Tradewinds to get an idea of the types of crimes, location and time of reports.
Unwise to walk around drunk in Cruz Bay late at night.

As long as you are not a complete and utter drunken, obnoxious moron, Cruz Bay is absolutely a safe place. If you leave your purse or something like that, it could possibly be stolen. The biggest issue is theft. There is very little real violence on St. John. Although there was a recent murder last summer of 20 year old kid who was stabbed after a bar altercation with two young punks from St Thomas. He was mouthing off to the locals, being drunk at 3am. Try to avoid that scenario and you should be just fine. Just mind your own business.

Prior to that issue last summer, I think it was about 17 years since the last murder. I may be wrong. Anyway, go and have fun!! There's no worries needed.

I concur with the picture you're getting. Cruz Bay is a safe place, which is not to say that it is crime-free. Visitors need to remain aware, use common sense and take normal safety precautions. Don't be fool drunk and wandering around at 1 A.M. Don't get into drunken arguments or let creeps befriend you. If somebody or some place "feels" wrong, get out of there. Don't wear a lot of expensive jewelry or flash a lot of cash. Don't go looking for illegal substances or activities. Don't go walking in dark, deserted areas. It's easy to get lulled into feeling that all's fine in paradise. It is paradise, but there are still some snakes there.

There's a good bit of activity in Cruz Bay earlier in the evening. Lots of people are going for a drink, walking somewhere for dinner, maybe stopping for a drink afterward. Problems usually happen later.

How about Coral Bay? I know it's more laid back, but is safety an issue?
