Hi, am heading to Stt during the April vacation week, (14th -21st)...which I find is also Easter and Passover. We are taking our 3 kids, 13, 13, and 16 with us and I'm trying to plan out all the things we want to do. I'm assuming that the Bolongo Wed.nite Carribean Party will be on, but what about the Sun. Sapphire Beach party? We are staying at Crystal coves Condos, so that would be convienient. Also, with 5 of us were also looking for good casual (not too expensive) restaurants, any suggestions for places you really liked, especially near Red Hook? Lastly, we are thinking of a half day snorkling trip...any suggestions as well as price. D they also have larger group trips...I heard the Tiki boat is out of commission. Thanks for any help. Can't wait!

I noticed that no one has replied to you yet. We are actually going to be in St. Thomas the week before you for our first trip -flying home on 4/15. We are staying on the East End near Red Hook. Sapphire Beach sounds like the perfect place to stay with a family. My best suggestion to you is to read posts by Bluwater because she travels with her children and has great advise.
These are suggestions I have seen for good less expensive casual restaurants:
The North Drop in Hull Bay for less expensive food with a nice sunset view. Outdoor seating with torches.

Molly Malone’s -. Irish Pub American Yacht Harbor. You can dine outdoors under a canopy, right on the dock at the eastern end of Red Hook, where the ferry from St. John pulls in. A dockside Irish pub. Seafood, Irish, steaks, sandwiches. 7 a.m.-11:00 p.m. daily. $. Cards: V, MC. Main courses $15-$25

Caribbean Saloon- American Yacht Harbor. Open daily. Lunch 11 a.m-6 p.m. Dinner 6-10:30 p.m. Caribbean fried lobster, steak, pasta. Late night menu 10:30 p.m.-4 a.m. $/$$. Cards: V, MC, AX, D. 775-7060. Red Hook Sports bar.

The East End Café – Open daily 6-10 p.m. Italian and American cuisine. $. Cards: MC, V. 715-1442.

Sopchoppy's Red Hook along the harbor (great view, too). and get the Alfredo pizza. If you go early enough (kitchen opens at 4. bar at 3.) you can sit and watch all the boats coming back into American Yacht Harbor. They're on the top floor and are open air.

Grateful Deli Red Hook Plaza. Mon.-Fri. 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Sat. 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Sun. 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Salads, sandwiches, ice cream, gourmet coffees. $. Cards: AX, MC, V. . 775-5160.

Burrito Bay at the American Yacht Harbor in Red Hook, serves breakfast all day. The restaurant also provides boat provisions, and serves a variety of sandwiches, snacks, and desserts.

Duffy's Love Shack in Red Hook sounds like a party spot at night after 10pm. People rave more about the fun atmosphere than the food but it looks reasonably priced. Here is their web page. http://www.duffysloveshack.com/prodopenstt.htm

There is a dive shop on Sapphire Beach called Dive In. This is a link to their page about a snorkeling trip that is $40 per person.

This guy does snorkel tours even at night. He also has a kayak snorkel tour. He has a dinner option for a few of his tours. One he will even take you back to his house! The other is a beach BBQ. Sounds like a great time but my husband was afraid of doing the snorkeling at night. Here is his link. http://nightsnorkel.com/nightsnorkel.html

If you want to make an entire day of it a popular tour boat called New Horizons II leaves from Sapphire Beach for a trip to the British Virgin Islands to explore The Baths and Jost Van Dyke. Here is there link. One tip is if you rent a car from Budget they will give you a coupon book that includes a coupon for New Horizons II to save a couple $50 on their trip.

THis is more of a cruise ship trip but if you are looking for a larger group 1/2 day snorkel trip it may work.

You can also rent motor boats by the hour from a few places with a captain which may be cheaper since 5 of you would be going. Gas is not always included in the price so be sure to ask. Here are a few links for those places.

We have reserved a day of sailing and snorkeling with Captain Pat on Ike Witt Charters. I believe he will do a half day trip too. A very nice man to talk to and he is originally from our home state Wisconsin. We chose him because of his love for fish and the fact they he will give a little snorkel lesson as well.

There are many daysails to choose from listed under St. Thomas on the main page. You are probably better asking about the private charter rate than the per person rate because of having 5 in your group. Most sail boats go out with a max of 6 passengers.

I think this information will keep you busy for a while. Have a nice trip.

kraus: The Grateful Deli in Red Hook is closed (they actually moved to St John in Mongoose Junction) and in its place is the Red Hook Diner. Also, the East End Cafe has upscaled a bit, prices are closer to $$/$$$, but very good Italian specialties and seafood.

ccamma: That week will have some early Carnival events, so keep your eyes open! Also, the best restaurant in the Sapphire complex is Azure, poolside at Sapphire Village. It is a bit of a walk from Crystal Cove, but mostly on the beach! My favorite casual Red Hook place is Molly Molone's- very extensive menu and reasonable.

Thank you East Ender I did not know that the Grateful Deli closed. Is there a place in Red Hook that you would recommend to grab a to go sandwich/picnic lunch to take to the beach?

Thank you for your replies...I was begining to think no one would answer! So much to do, so little time!!! Do you think that the Sapphire Beach Party will be on since that will be Easter? Too bad the Grateful Deli is closed, that had been on our list of place to try. Thanks for your answers...love the forum!

"To go" is a very familiar VI tradition. You can order to go almost everywhere. For sandwiches in the Red Hook area- Burrito Bay Deli and Marina Market both do a great job. The Marina Market sandwiches are a bit more "gourmet."

I also forgot about Wok and Roll- take out Chinese for casual dining in your condo. Or Senor Pizza- they deliver on the east end.

I can't promise, but I don't think Easter will stop the Sapphire Beach Party. I think there are some Carnival events that day also.

We are also staying at Crystal Cove from 4/18 to 4/25. If you are interested in a great time I would recommend renting a small boat and heading out for some snorkeling on your own. A boat will cost you about 250 - $300 for the day. There are a number of places to rent from including Pocket Yachts at the sapphire marina. I have done this in the past and it is really easy to navagate, the water is so clear and the islands are all within easy sight. My family inclding my 8 and 10 year old sons are really excited. Maybe we will see you there. have a great trip.
