I have been boating for a while on 20-30 foot powerboats and plan
to rent a boat for a day or more when we get to St.John in February. My question is about the open water type seas. We generally boat on the Chesapeake Bay and rivers in Maryland. Does anyone have any concerns about circumnavigating St. John to moar at some of the quiet beaches on the island for a snorkel/picnic kind if thing? Are there huge waves just out of the bays? I have a GPS so I am not worried about being lost, just the size of the seas.
It all depends on the weather patterns and ocean when you visit. I am also a boater and have opted for doing daysails often because the local people are more familiar with where it is and isn't good any given day (plus I like to enjoy my vacation instead of worry about unknown waters and conditions). I'm sure where you rent they will have information and suggestions according to present weather and ocean conditions. If not ask and be cautious. Have fun!
When you say daysail, you mean a boat with a captain? I have to say
I enjoy doing the work myself of navigating etc. but see your point
about worrying on a vacation.
Jacmac, Never give up! If your heart is set on boating there are many options. Noah's Little Dinghies's is one. Or talking with someone else on this board and possibly sharing a day or two with someone who knows the waters. Take the time to read past pages on this board. The knowledge you'll gain is irreplaceable.
any comments on Naughty Nymph? they have a some boats i may be taking...
(I assume Scubado you are not in competition with them really!!I you are the Scubado Daysail folk)
No jacmac, I have no relation to the scubadu day sail people. I own an electrical contracting business in Louisville, KY. Hate being cold, love the USVI and am addicted to this board and boating
