I was wondering if there are safe roads to run on in STX?? I ultimately would like a 3 to 5 mile loop (or 1.5-2.5 mi out then back). As of now Im hoping to be staying at Chenay Bay or Coakley Condos (I havent made my reservation yet). Any input would be helpful. Thanks!!

Where you are renting your choice is really just the East End road. It is narrow and bumpy and cars usually drive it too fast.

If you are staying at Chenay I would suggest going West (carefully) and then going into the entrance at the Buccaneer resort. You can have a safer run there, but with some tough climbs. You can also do the same thing by turning into Miss Bea Rd. or the subdivision around the Green Cay Marina (Tamarind Reef).

Down farther at Coakley bay, your only real option is the East end Rd. unless you venture up into some the the subdivisions south of Solitude.

Thanks for the info. I may give it a try once I check out the area but maybe I'll just take some time off. Thing is Im one of those crazy people who really likes the running thing. But hmmmm, laying on the beach is my other favorite thing so I think I'l be ok. : )
Thanks again. (I'll throw my sneakers in my bag!!)

If you want to run you can easily & safely run east or west from Chenay or Coakely on the East End Road. I do agree that you can run around the Buc's grounds for a nice 2.5 mile or so run, do two laps. If you are someone who runs everywhere they travel you will find STX very easy & safe. I run everywhere I go. I won't bore you with the details but I'll say STX is easy & safe.

Thanks for the post. Im not one that likes to run small loops so I appreciate that I can run out on the east end road without problem. I may take a swing through the Buc though, to check it out. You can bore me with your details if you'd like. I love to hear all peoples adventures from their trips. It gets me primed for our own trip. The first time I stepped foot on STJ, I swear that I had already been there because of all my conversations with folks. That's half of the fun of planning a trip to me!
thanks again.

If you do the entire east end loop (Rt 82 - Rt 60 - Rt 82 ) it is 13 miles. Lots of hills.

On a bike it takes me over an hour.
