I'm going to be visiting from January 2 - january 9. Is there any road races or something similar? Avid runner and would like to run while I'm there.

Virgin Islands Pace Runners is the organization that Alana posted, it is a St. Croix Organization. Their calendar does include the St. Thomas Association of Road Runners (STAR) events, so both islands events are on the link noted.
You might want to reach out to STAR. Even if they don't have a race going on while you are visiting, they might have members that train regularly and perhaps you could join them on their runs. Visit the STAR Facebook page to reach out to them.
The above organizations have ties to the Virgin Islands Track & Field Federation.
On St. John there are a couple races, if you should decide you want to plan a future vacation around one of them: 8 Tuff Miles is a big one, and there is also the St. John Triathlon.
There are a couple social groups on St. Thomas that plan 'fun' races of different kinds; often including games, challenges, music, party, costumes etc. See: Active Island Events and St. Thomas Sports and Social Club.
