Will be in STT in May 06 for wedding/honeymoon. Looking at staying at the Ritz or Marriott Frenchman's Reef. I've read reviews of both on TripAdvisor and it's enough to make someone crazy!! Which hotel would be a better choice? We only plan on staying there for 2 or 3 days then honeymooning at Caneel on STJ. Thanks!

We stayed at the Marriot at the beginning of our trip for two nights and then at the Ritz for one night at the end. The Marriot has a lot to see and do and has a ferry that will take you in to town for shop for about $7 each (but not on Sunday.. the locals are at church, there isn't any cruise ships and the town is basically closed down.). The morning star beach is beautiful and Havanna Blue restaurant is a must. We really didn't think it was any more expensive than the other places we ate and the ambiance was so wonderful. We stayed up at the Frenchmans and enjoyed walking the grounds more than at the Ritz. OUr room had just been painted and the smell got to me but I would rather have that than icky walls. Iguannas everywhere. Fun atmosphere, swim up bar. Lots of Honeymooners that were fun and friendly and might be fun for you to be around.

Ritz is beautiful. Kindof at other end of island, pretty beach and on the far end you can find tons of coral and shells to take home. Rooms were beautiful and meals were nice. Fun to swim at a eternity pool (even though it was raining).Hot tubs were lacking. One was over run with kids and the other one was cold.BOth at other end of resort at ritz owned condos. Taxis are so expensive and you hate to spend $20 just to get somewhere. think about renting a car if you'll be there for a while and then maybe you can try both. I hate to drive anywhere i am not familiar with but it seemed pretty managabe to me

It's a hard decision to choose only one. Either way you will love it.It really comes down to if you want to be Pampered or casual. We kind of had more fun at the Marriot. Just more laid back and the views were beautiful. We didn't feel so cut off from the rest of the island there. The Ritz is impressive and would make pretty pictures!!! They chage a 35 fee for kayaks and beach toys and things which would be fun to do. The hotel staff at both resorts were wonderful to us.
Have a great time and enjoy !
