premier property on St. Thomas. Great location out on East End and convenient to Red Hook for ferry to St. John and BVI's. Food is a bit pricey but always enjoyed the Cafe and haven't tried the "finer" dining room in years. Great views, lovely pool and the additional beach on Great Bay is an asset. Good dining on East End - Bonnie's right next door at the Elysian (casual on the beach) and a new spot, Richards (or is it Roberts - ?) anyhow some good reports coming out of there. Down the road a bit is Blue Moon Cafe at Secret Harbour. A bit further than Blue Moon is Patricks at Compass Point. Going into Red Hook, you'll find Grateful Deli behind Duffy's in the Mall for good sandwiches and treats, Caribbean Saloon for a sports bar type atmosphere with reportedly great roast beef. A couple of pub-style places are Molly Malones in Red Hook and further down the road to Smith Bay will get you to the Toad and Tart (not much to look at but traditional home-cooked English pub food with specials each nite - more of a locals spot). If you want to do Italian Romano's is nearby in Smith Bay and there are plenty more to choose from! You'll want to day trip to St. John probably to explore the beaches and the island a bit. You can do that on your own via public ferry (unless the Ritz has Caneel's boat for access while you are there) and taxi around or rent a vehicle for the day to do on your own.
You may want to rent a car depending on how much you plan to roam about but you will enjoy the Ritz. Might want to consider the cat trip to Jost (on Thursdays, I think) and the evening cocktail party.
Altho some find the service at the Ritz a bit too much on island time, I've not had that experience. You'll tire of them saying, "It's my pleasure" and somehow it seems like it really is! Enjoy!

Thanks for the info on the Ritz, we just booked our 25th wedding celebration. We will be first time visitors to US Virgin Islands and are looking forward to a November vacation. Any other info on the Ritz and excursions to the British Virgin Islands would be helpful
