I was to leave this Monday to go back to STT from NJ, but I had to move my flight to this Friday due to Sandy. (by the way US AIR was wonderful. They changed my flight and did not charge me. This policy of letting you to make a change BEFORE the DATE of flying when there is an flight alert is something that UNITED should do, if they don't do it already.) However, the last thing on my mind was that I would be stopped by hurricane in NJ. STT yes but NJ in late October! No way this should happen. Sandy is not the same storm as it was down by the islands last week. It is a monster. The flooding on the coast line will be pretty bad. It is only a CAT 1 but will linger to make itself felt. Downtown NYC will have a problem with flooding. That is probably due to the fact that the coast line, as well as other parts of NJ and NY, have been so overbuilt that there is no room for nature to do its thing. The thinking now is that there will lots of power outages. I was at the HD the other day and there was a line of about 300 people waiting for a generator delivery that was to take place later in the day. Plywood, flash lights, batteries, water was selling so fast it was just like being in STT when there is a storm approaching.

Then I thought, the only difference between STT and NJ is about 1000 miles. Then I had second thoughts. NJ is still NJ but there is no better place to live than the VI. Hurricanes or not!!!!!

Those of you that call the VI your home should sit back and realize how great it is to live here. Yes crime is far far to high. The government is over loaded with too many people and will never change. WAPA rates will go up and up as will Mr. Hodge's salary. And who knows where all the money goes. But this is the same as in the main land, only a greater degree here in the VI.

But there is nothing better than the VI!!!!!

Looking forward to being home.

I guess there shall be others in your same position as 6000 flights have been canceled due to this unprecedented storm.
Keep enjoying your stay here in the islands as it may be a few days before you can get home.
I hope the US states that are affected can get back on their feet quickly.

Agree that VI are great. But here you are in our Northeast Corridor and you're so close to Snowshoe, WV! While St. Thomas is our summer stomping grounds, Snowshoe is where we go in the winter. Unless you completely despise snow, it would be worth the trip over there because Snowshoe feels like Christmas all winter long and the general demeanor is that which you would encounter during the holidays. Of course, if you're in NJ or most anywhere on the east coast right now, you 'ain't going anywhere. Welcome to our world, and hopefully you can make it home soon.
