hi - My wife and I are planning a return trip to St. Thomas for our 40th wedding anniversary this year - in October of 1969 we stayed at the beach affiliate of Bluebeard's Castle - Bluebeard's Beach Resort - maybe 10-20 straight line motel type units on a beautiful beach and connected in the middle with an office and dining area - we remember having Bluebeards' Wenches ( rum, blue curacao, and fruit juices) almost every day on lounge chairs under beach umbrellas - great memories !!!! - and also, I believe it was fairly close to the former and now closed Pineapple Beach Resort.
Several years ago we were in touch with another couple who we had met on our honeymoon - they had returned to St. Thomas and heard that the Beach Resort was abandoned . We would love to return and be able to take pictures of the former beach resort. Any information in that regard would be appreciated.
Hello ubermax,
Congrats on your 40th anniversary. Bluebeards Beach Resort has been gone a long time. I don't remember if it was a hurricane that destroyed it, maybe a fire? Anyway the ruins were cleared away, you could see the foundations of some buildings, others were covered in bush. That is until several years ago when Ritz Carlton built their timeshare property on the site. It is presently the Ritz Carlton Club; several low rise buildings, pool, restaurant. The Ritz Resort is next door. The beach has lounge chairs, umbrellas, and some hammocks between the sea-grape trees. The restaurant/bar is just a short stroll from the sand.
Bluebeards Beach/Ritz is about a 10 minute drive from Pineapple on Water Bay. There still is a property there by that name, Pineapple. The larger resort there has changed hands and names several times, and is currently closed.
More recently, the beachfront property affiliated with Bluebeards Castle is called the Bluebeards Beach Club and its on Limetree Beach. The resort that was there before was called Limetree Resort, it was damaged in a hurricane and was abandoned for a while before being renovated.
Things have changed but you can definitely return to Bluebeards Beach. Have a rum drink at the bar and enjoy the beach, make new memories while reminiscing about the old ones!

My husband and I spent our honeymoon there in April of 1970. We didn't get back for 25 years, boy had things changed. Met people who knew the area and told us it was a locals only beach for many years. It is now the Ritz Carlton and looks nothing like it did back in 1970.
We love the laid back feeling of that little resort and the fact we could dine in town at their larger resort if wanted to venture out. Perfect place for a honeymoon.
We now go to Secret Harbor and enjoy the same laid back life style, did the Ritz thing with DH for many years for business. Give me my shorts and tee shirt and I'm a happy camper.
Enjoy your trip !
You have to go to the book store and get a copy of I think Caribbean Travel and Life or some other Caribbean magazine. It follows a young couple that retrace the steps of the Honeymoon that their parents took years ago. Very insightful and enjoyable article. It also showcases St. Thomas on this months cover.

thank you all for the info - Molly, we did read that magazine article - it got us thinking again about that little beach resort from so long ago - it was a big trip for 2 kids from New England - Islander , thanks for pinpointing the location for us - it sounds as though we might not recognize it - but new memories as you suggest would be just as good - thanks again !!
You're welcome ubermax. If you have other questions about places you remember from the honeymoon trip or for planning the return trip be sure to post.
IAMolly - also saw the article with writer retracing parents honeymoon in St. Thomas using their trip report/journal - nice article & photos.

When I moved here to STT in 1975 Bluebeards Beach was already a collection of abandoned shells of the resort - Islanders info is spot on - things do change - Pineapple Beach Resort was razed in the early 80's to build the Virgin Grand and is now closed as mentioned - its last management was Renaissance resorts.
