Myself and my fiance will be in St Thomas on the 7th of August getting married with 9 of our closes friends and relatives. Based on several threads I have seen we decided to make reservations at Room with a view only to find out they are closed in August. I am looking for some other ideas which may be a good alternative with the assortment of food choices and prices similar to The Room With a View. We are paying out of pocket so I am trying to keep it atleast remotely reasonable cost wise. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The Room with a View did recommend the Banana Tree Grille but I do not know anything about the restaurant. Thanks in advance!

Banana Tree Grille is excellent. Patrick is a great chef (he's been with the owners, Liz and Jerry Buckalew for over 20 years) the view is fabulous and the service impeccable. Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials and have a wonderful visit!

The only issue we have is room with a view is closed in august and from what i can see the banana tree is closed on Mondays. Any additional feed back would be greatly appreciated as we are doing all this a little blind. Also thank you very much for your kind wishes as we do look forward to a nice relaxing week in the islands!

Some posters on this board do not agree with Banana Tree Grille but my husband and I were very pleased with our experience in April at BTG. The food was very good. Is it the most sublime food you have every eaten? Probably not, but we were very pleased with what we picked for our meal. The best part of our experience is that I called for a reservation about two weeks prior to our arrival. I made the reservation for us and let them know this was for my husband's birthday. When we arrived for our reservation, they set us at the table with the best view of the harbor. The table was decorated for a birthday celebration. The experience continued with impeccable service. Any request we had was meet with a smile and essentially no problem we can take care of that for you. So, if you look for an overall experience then I would vote for Banana Tree Grille hands down. My husband was very surprised that I was able to arrange this with very little effort on my part. Just a simple phone call before our trip was all it took.

Mafolie Restaurant has a fantastic view and a solid menu. Not cheap, but nothing "nice" is cheap on Stt.

Craig and Sally's is my family's favorite, but I think they are also closed on Mondays.

We also loved our Banana Tree Grille experience.

Good Luck - Have Fun!

Thanks for the input. we are running into issues with the closed on Monday thing as this is the day we are getting married and would liek to take our friends and family out for dinner. I will continue to look for some new ideas and do appreciate any other thoughts anyone can give to help us out. This is the once task I have in planning the wedding so I guess I need to do ti right!

Just had dinner at Bella Blu. There was a wedding party there really enjoying themselves. It is an option. It's in Frenchtown.

Craig and Sally's is one of the best! It is a little on the costy side, as well as Oceana.

We also love Epernay's - great wine and fun staff.

Fungi's is priced very reasonably and I love the food. It's not as fancy, but well worth the visit.

East End Cafe is also soooo yummy, but no view.

I would recommend some of my personal favorites:

Most Expensive-
Old Stone Farmhouse (inside, charming, romantic, pricey)
Havana Blue (at Frenchman's Reef resort, open air feel, amazing food, pricey)
Amalia Cafe (Palm Passage in Charlotte Amalie, I have only dined outside, but I think there's an inside, absolutely amazing food, pricey)

Moderately Expensive to Moderate-
The North Drop (really great food, outside or inside dining, on a mountain overlooking the ocean, tiki torches, casual feel, not too pricey)
Indigo (poolside dining with a small waterfall in the pool and also an inside area, lots of flowers and greenery, very tropical flair, really great food, not too pricey)

I would recommend Robert's at the Elysian Beach Resort, one of our favorite places on STT. Check out thier website below.

Never been to Herve'. It doesn't get much press on here. Not sure why. Seems like a nice place. The website says they offer a semi-private wine room for parties of 10-20 people.

We visited STT from July 4-11 and had an excellent visit. I started writing about our trip and find that it is running long. Not sure if I should post all of that or not.

Have been thinking about STT a lot since we got back. May have to start frequenting the relocation board . . . [:)]

Some of the restaurants we visited and enjoyed were:

Cuzzins - Charlotte Amalie on Back Street (
Hook Line & Sinker - Frenchtown (the swordfish was excellent)
Indigo - Overlooking Megans Bay (the pan fried sea bass was excellent)
