From Sapphire Beach Resort & Marina Association......

8:45 a.m., the day after Earl.

Power out. No access to Internet.

SBRM came through Earl in pretty good shape. No apparent structural damage to residential buildings or to marina. Roofs still on. No apparent damage from flooding. A few patio dividers damaged. Lost 5 or so palms down near A Building and a few seagrapes uprooted in pool area. Some EXIT signs blown off. Beaches rearranged a bit; a lot more rock showing. Little plastic shed housing landscaping equipment alongside of E Building imploded, but pieces, maybe all, still there. 3-4 days of grounds cleanup underway. Everyone's spirits good. Winds blowing down the hill from the Village side had to be a steady 80 mph for a couple of hours. Consensus is not that Sapphire dodged a bullet but that it survived a bullet. Eye of Earl passed a little over 60 miles north of Sapphire. Had it passed 60 miles to the south, the story could have been much, much worse. At the time of its passage by Sapphire, Earl was a Category 4 storm. Very little information available about rest of island. More after further inspection.

As of last night the island had 25 transformers damaged, so most if not all of the island is without electricity, there was also a 6 p.m. curfew imposed on the island for last night. The bad news is Tropical Storm Fiona appears to be taking the same pathway as Earl and expected to be the in St. Thomas area tomorrow night 9/1/10, so our friends and employees could still be in for more trouble again tomorrow night.

FI, ore of the same is the report from SBCW (Crystal Cove). Several trees down. Lots of bushes are out of the ground. No damage to the buildings. No power. No internet.

At my house right above SBCW I lost a few trees, a wooden fence got blown down but no building damage.

Lots of street problems on Smith Bay Road. Branches, wires etc.

Great to hear everyone is safe. We have been very worried about Crystal Cove. We are praying Fiona is kind as she passes thru.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of our friends on St. Thomas.

I have only second hand info on Point Pleasant. There are no poles down from Smith Bay to Red Hook. There are numerous trees down looking at Point. (I have a friend who lives on emerald hill and they can see Point. I will ask him tomorrow to drive up and see how things are. The issue now is power! There is no power n the east end. There were WAPA crews working on SkyLine today. But nothing as of yet on Smith Bay Rd.

Thank you Billd for your report! We love Sapphire and have made many friends during our visits to the USVI and BVI. We were hoping and praying for everyones safety. Good to hear that while power outages, and minor damage is currently a problem, that everyone stayed safe and no one was hurt.
Please stay safe has you prepare for Fiona.

we love Sapphire and can not wait to return next year!

keep the reports coming.

I understand difficulties with storm...hoping your homes, family and friends are all safe and dry. When things calm enough to reply, please let me know if any unit there is available 2/10 and 2/11 2011. I remain ready to make arrangements.
Please reply.
Thanks,
Beth C

Beth, for only 2 nights especially during high season you will probably need to rent through Antilles Resorts Management. Most owners who rent on their own have a 3 or 4 night minimum stay.
