Ok...so my last item to do is rent a car. I got a quote from Dependable for 8 days for $600 on the new 4 door Jeep. There are 4 of us. We plan to travel all of STT and would love to go to the beaches on St. Johns.

I can book a compact for 1/4 of the price on Hotwire. I already checked with my Chase credit card and they do cover the collision damage in the VIs.

I understand there are certain areas of St. Johns we won't be able to go to, but we mostly want to go to the all the beaches listed above under St. Johns Beaches.

Value your advice 🙂

Thanks!

Rent a 4 x 4, but check with Budget. I got 2 jeep wranglers for about 380.00 each....that's ALOT less then $600.00

Save your money, we drove all over St. Thomas w/o 4WD. As for St. John, you won't need it for the beaches BUT if you go through hotwire you run the risk of getting a company that won't allow you to take the car to St. John. But if its that much cheaper, you could take the ferry over to St John and rent a car there for the day and still come out ahead?

Since I don't know much about St. John, is it someplace that has golf carts or such if you take the ferry over??

Which companies won't let you take them over?

I've searched on here...but for some reason the search keeps coming up empty.

Thanks!!

Hi
there isn't golf carts on st John. Your car insurance company will cover the damages to the rental car but they don't cover loss of income that you will be charged if there is an accident and the car has to be fixed at 600.00 dollars a week that adds up fast.

Waterguy....just a little information and i don't know if this pertains to the USVI.

We rented a car for the Keys and my husband had an accident. They tried to charge us for loss of use of the car. When insurance company heard this they fought it and said that they had to prove that they had no other cars on the lots to rent. They couldn't prove it, so they dropped the charges.

I ditto Bryan!! Rent a compac for STT and take the passenger ferry and rent for the day. I believe it is cheaper and more flexible than taking the car ferry that has limited crossings!

welp - I just bit the bullet and rented a new Liberty from Discount Car Rental there on the island. It was $400 for the 8 days and we can take it to St. Johns.

We rented a jeep in Mexico for $350 for the week so I didn't figure this was so bad.

Now I'm just hoping that Discount is a good place to rent from....?
