Has anyone tried "Noah's Little Arks" and renting a dingy for the day. We thought this would be a nice way to explore the island from a different view point. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Mel,

We rented a dinghy through Noah's Little Arks while we were on St John in Feb. 2001. This was the most fun my husband and I have ever had. Joe, the owner, will give you instructions on how to operate the dinghy and safety features. We rented the dinghy for the full day. I would suggest a full day. There is just so much to see on it. On our next visit we are definately going to rent it again. They will give you a map on good "off shore" snorkel spots.

TIP: We had my husband driving and me sitting beside him. WRONG!!! Have someone sitting up in the front to hold down the front of the dinghy. You will travel alot better.

TIP: If you decide to snorkel in one of the off shore spots, start off snorkeling against the current, so that your renturn trip is easier. Leave your fins on whil trying to get back into the boat. They give you an added boost.

Mel, just to more tips......

1st: Be sure to apply sunscreen frequently. Even to your feet. We had been on St John for almost 12 days and had a nice tan going. But we got alot more sun on the water then we did on the beach. My husbands feet burned terribly this day, as did my shoulders.

2nd: Try going to beaches you don't go to by car. The furthest beach you can take the dinghy to is Leinster. We went there first, then started back stopping at beaches we go to. Next time we'll try to be more adventurous. You cannot take the dinghy to the south shore side. The water there is too choppy for dinghys.

Have a blast!!!!

Tracy,

Thanks so much the tips. The more we know... the better our day will in St. John. We will only be there for one day for our cruise. This does seem like a unique way to spend the day! Again, thanks so much for the "inside tips". Mel

This sounds like fun! We will be staying on St. Thomas. Obviously, we would have to take the ferry to St. John, but would we need to rent a car to get to the dinghy rental place? Or how far is it by cab? Can 4 people go in the dinghy? And finally, what is the cost? Thanks for the info.

Ronnie

We are doing this in April. Here's the site for more information.

My understanding is.....it is right next to the ferry area. The info about price and sizes can be found on the website. We are looking forward to this in St. John.

Just got back from St. Thomas/St. John

Rented a dingy for the afternoon, and it was the highlight of the trip. Highly recommend it!

Phone to make a reservation before you get there, in order to avoid disappointment. We didn't have a reservation, so we could not get a dingy for the whole day.
