Coming to St. Thomas in February staying at the Marriott. What is better to do, rent a car for the week or take taxi's? Are there busses available too? As an American driver, it is easy to pick up driving on the oppsoite side, are thedirections on the road good?
We have 2 small children and going back and forth might get pricey. How does one get into town fron the Marriott? I've heard there is a ferry but it cost every time back and forth per person...sound s like that can get pricey?
What would you recommend?
Highly recommend getting a car. Since taxis charge "per person" and the rates are set for destination to destination, 4 people will eat up $20 just to get into town and the same to come back. You can see how it can get pricey. Discount will rent you a small, economy car for 225/week 340-776-4858
There are buses, but they are unreliable. I've never riden one. There are dollar cabs, but they cater to islanders. Stick with the rental. Roads are well marked, maps easy to read and, even if you get lost, just keep going...it's an island! Haha! You'll end up where you started eventually! Seriously, though, the island is only 3 X 12, so it is easy to navigate.
