Any suggestions on where to start with regard to finding a one week rental? Travel dates Feb. 4th - 11th, 2006, but those dates are somewhat flexible. Several couples traveling together, so may need more than one unit.

Hello,

Scroll to the top of this page and click on St. John and then Accommodations and start there. You can look at different websites for villas and villa agencies from that page and see what appeals to your group.

You need to determine following:
Do you want to all stay together? (There are many villas that can accommodate large groups.)
Do you want to be near Cruz Bay on the West End or the smaller, quieter Coral Bay on the Ease End?
Do you need to be on or close enough to sense the water or does hillside work as long as you have the view?

Once you have answered those, you can begin to check out the numerous properties avaialble and eliminate those not making the 'cut'. Then come back to the board and ask for reviews about specific properties. Depending upon group size, you may need to consider multiple car rentals as well.

Think about where you want to be located (beachfront, mountain top, near town, etc). Think about whether or not a pool is important - pay close attention to the pools if you want one because so many are those small "plunge pools". Do you want a washer and dryer? Are children going along? If so, pay attention to the age limits for children and the layout of the villa (access to the pool for young children wandering around the home?). If you villa is in the mountains or in an area where the road isn't well developed, you'll need a 4WD. This will cost more than a regular car rental - so factor that into your cost. I do recommend a 4WD on STJ anyway, as it's hard to really get to lots of the island in a normal car (trust me, I've tried and failed - TWICE!). Pay attention to whether or not the villa offers fruit trees if you think you might want to eat/cook with fresh fruit from your villa. Our last villa offered passionfruit, which I used to make sorbet - YUMM!!! Little things like this can really make a villa special. Also, understand your villa's placement on the island and the way the breezes will blow through, rain etc. How close are the other homes around you? Can they see your villa, pool area, etc? Can you see them? How close os the nearest main road - you don't want to hear watertrucks and traffic going up and down the road all day.

Hope this helps. Best of luck and let us know what you decide.
