Hi All!
I'm looking into renting a home for a week in June for a group of friends. Three of us have been to St John before while the other 2 have not. We have found a home through vivacations.com called the Eaglesnest. Has anyone stayed here or rented with this site before and can provide any insight? Thanks!

I have not stayed at the villa, but I CAN vouch for VIVA, or VIVacations. They are both professional and reliable.

I have rented through VIVA. Good folks. I think my agent was named Jack (hmm...or is that my car insurance guy? -scratching head).

No problems with their service. We did have a toilet in the home (villa Calicaribe) that ran and emptied the cistern, twice. VIVA filled the cistern, twice. Not their fault,. They sent a plumber the first time and he "pretended" to fix it, but apparently didn't.

Nice home. Fruit, wine, cheese and crackers in the fridge upon arrival (no extra charge) and we were able to reach them and get service for the toilet. Damage deposit was returned without incident and on time.

Edit/Update: i just checked for updates on calicaribe and se that it is now with Destination St John. Still, my experiecne was with VIVA when they managed it and it was great. The home was sold just after I rented it - so that might explain the new management.

Best wishes.

VIVA is an excellent rental agency on St John, however, there may be a problem for you with the setup of the bedrooms or the accessibility of the pool at Eaglesnest. I read a review of the villa early this summer when we were looking for a casual and reasonable rental for our family group in August. I think that the review was on the Trip Advisor-St John message board. It mentioned that you had to go outside INTO THE DRIVEWAY to access either one of the bedrooms or the pool. I distinctly remember rejecting the villa based on this review. For the life of me I cant remember which problem it was, but it was definitely a weird setup. Perhaps you could search the trip advisor board for either the trip report or review, or perhaps you could call VIVA and ask frankly about the floorplan and accessibility of the bedrooms and pool.

I just completed the search for Eaglesnest on trip advisor-St John and I did find several entries/reviews. You do have to go out the front door of the villa, walk along the driveway, through a gate and down some steps to access the pool from the house.
Seems a little cumbersome to me, especially if you want to have food or drinks at the pool. Guess the setup would be a plus if you had a toddler or a group of young children. I think you can do better in that price range.

Mary: Having rooms in individual pavilions is a fairly standard practice in West Indian architecture! 😉

I realize that having rooms in different pavilions is common--at almost every villa we have rented we have had main houses and bedroom pavilions ect but I have rarely seen a house where you have to leave via the front door and then walk around the house and down a driveway to get to a bedroom or a pool. Yes, there are some houses where the pool is separate--in a garden or on a different level but have rarely seen a house where you have to go outside and down a driveway to get to a lower bedroom unless it is in its'own pavilion, and this one is not.
The pool in this house was added just a year or 2 ago and maybe at one time the downstairs apt was a separate owners apt or rental with no connection to the upstairs. It just seems that the layout doesn't lend itself to a rental villa in the Eagelsnest price range.
