Whew, I just called 8 rental car places to reserve a car for our trip to St. John three months from now. My advice to others trying to rent a car -- book early!! And call, rather than waiting to hear back via email.

Courtesy was completely sold out. Penn's had a 7-passenger vehicle only, at $90/day. Conrad Sutton has a 5-day minimum. St. John Car Rental has a 1 week minimum. L&L Jeep Rentals had cars, but not on one of the days we needed it. Spencer's Jeep Rental had nothing available. A couple of places did say to come by the day we needed the car and they would see what they could do. But the place we're staying is off the beaten track and requires a rental car to get to, so I didn't want to take the chance we wouldn't be able to get to where we're staying.

I was finally able to book a Jeep at Hospitality Car & Jeep Rentals, and I must say, of the entire bunch I called they were also the most pleasant to deal with. A couple of the others were surly and rude. Hospitality said they would also leave the keys for us if we get there late, after they'd left.

mischievous,

you discovered the reason I have been using Thomas @ Hospitality for many years. He is a great guy, pleasant to deal with and as far as I can tell very honest.

Plus when you are in Cruz Bay he will let you park there is he has the room.

I think you will be happy with him, his are not the newest vehicles on the island, but I have found them trouble free in my trips.

enjoy

RM

We're going in late June and I've also been urging anybody on any of the USVI boards that are still asking questions about car rentals on STJ to hurry up and book if their going in late June/early July. I booked last week and availability is definitely getting low. We ended up booking with Conrad Sutton. BTW, how much does Hospitality charge a day for their jeeps?

Whew is right! I did find the number for Hospitality and made my reservation through Thomas, who was terrific. He said the island is very busy and cars are sold out or almost sold out. Thanks for the info. d

I have rented through Thomas as well, but when asked about parking in his lot while in Cruz Bay -- he said he did not "promote" this and said there were other lots. Many people in this forum have said to rent from someone who did allow us to park in their lots, so this took me a little by surprise. Any advice on this?
