I'm going to st thomas for my spring break with my girlfriend. I'm planning on staying at bolongo bay, has anyone been there and if so what do you think? Also I'd like to rent a car. And this is the hardest part since I'm only 20. I know budget will rent you one if you're 21 but I'm not there yet. Any help would be appricitated. Thanks

Check with Dependable Car Rental. They are real nice people who might be able to help you out. They have a web site.

I agree with Rick, give them a call we use them when we go every year. It's a family-owned co, will pick you up at airport and take you to there office to do paperwork. Snce they aren't at airport you don't pay the 8% tax.

The food (I'm going all-inclusive)? And since I'm only 20, anywhere I can get a car, lol. (not gonna happen) and just any general information. I'm staying in a beachfront room. Thanks

HI RICH, HAPPY TO GIVE YOU MY EXPERIENCE OF BOLONGO BAY. IT IS NOT A PLACE FOR EVERYONE, BUT WE LOVED IT. RELAXED AND INTIMATE ATMOSPHERE - VERY LAID BACK - IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR ACTION AND TOTAL PARTYING (AT THE RESORT), THIS MAY NOT BE THE PLACE FOR YOU. IT IS AN OLDER PLACE, BUT ALL APPEARED FRESHLY PAINTED, WELL MAINTAINED - AND VERY CLEAN. ROOMS WERE LARGE AND NICELY DECORATED (BUT NOT EXTRAVAGANT). YOUR ROOM WILL BE LOCATED STEPS FROM THE BEACH. THE BEACH IS ROCKY AND THE POOL IS SMALL. HOWEVER, EVERYTHING ELSE MAKE UP FOR THESE LITTLE THINGS. FULL GYM RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET (USED EVERY DAY TO SWEAT OFF THE ALCOHOL.) WE DID NOT DO ALL INCLUSIVE, BUT HAD SEVERAL MEALS THERE AND THE FOOD WAS OUTSTANDING. A MUST TO DO IS THE DAY SAIL CRUISE TO ST JOHN AND ALSO THE EVENING 2 HR CRUISE. SIGN UP EARLY. GREAT LOCATION BETWEEN CHARLOTTE AMALIE & RED HOOK. TRAFFIC IN CHARLOTTE AMALIE IS EXTREMELY HEAVY IN AM AND AGAIN AT CLOSE OF BUSINESS 3-6 PM. DRIVING IS HAZARDOUS (IN MY OPINION) BUT IT IS EASLY TO GET FROM POINT TO POINT. I PREFERRED SHOPPING IN "HAVENSPORT" TO CHARLOTTE AMALIE - EASIER TO PARK, SAME SHOPS ETC. BOLONGO
WAS PERFECT FOR US-HOPE IT IS WHAT YOU HAD IN MIND. LET ME KNOW IF I CAN GIVE YOU ANY MORE INFO.

That sounds great, thatnks for all the info. I'm a little concerned about the beaches there because I love the beach. I not used to any great beaches, but I've been to alot of these east coast beaches and I like to have a lil fun in the water. I hope the beaches aren't to rocky where I can't stand it. Whre is Havensport? I was looking at it and wanted to visit. Is it near Charlotte Amalie? Thanks for all your help.

I should have said the water (not beach) had some rocks for a couple of feet, then sand. I am sure, if you are a water person, it is not a problem. It is just not total sand as some beaches. The beach, itself, is perfect. Havensport is almost to Charlotte Amalie - right where the cruise ships come in. If you think of anything else, give a shout. Hope you have a wonderful time

Correction on name - Havensport is actually Havensight. Havensight Mall to be exact - its an outdoor shopping area and also the location of the West Indian Company Cruise Ship docks.

Bolongo Bay is a lovely beach. One side has water sports for rental or use by hotel guest - the other side has palm trees, hammocks and beach volleyball. The water is a bit rocky at some points but overall is lovely. There are other beaches on the islands that are all sandy - you can beach hop a couple of the days of your visit.

Have a great time.

Hi There,

Agree with Islander, the beach at Bolongo is a nice one....it's the entrance into the water from the beach that is rocky. But not to worry. There are so many nice beaches on STT and it is easy to get around, I always make it a point to spend time at a variety of beaches....they each have their own unique characteristics.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Bolongo a while back and I still like to eat lunch there, right off the beach at Iggie's when I am back on island.

Thought you had a scoop on 'Havensport'. I've been reading that they are connecting Havensite and Port of $ale right next to it. I thought they had done this and combined the names to be 'Havensport'. LOL

By the way, how's the drinking water there?

We always rent our vehicles on St. Thomas and bring them on the ferry. It really doesn't cost much to bring them and you ride for free. The only draw back to bringing your car from St. Thomas to St. John is is you have any type of car trouble, you are on your own. But considering the fact that the cars are all new or nearly new, troubles are few and far between. Getting on and off the ferry is interesting. Some morings it is like playing chicken (but driving in reverse). You have to keep an eye on which ferry you use because your ticket is only good on that company. Just for your info. we always use Dependable Car Rental. We always send a couple of days out of the week on St. John and enjoy the beaches and hiking trails.

The drinking water depends on where you get it. We always buy bottled water and keep it in the fridge. We keep enough in there to rotate the stock and refill them with tap water. The only thing we do with the tap water is use a culigan water filer that fits on the top of each bottle and you drink through it like a sports bottle. Keep plenty of water with you especially if you are doing any hiking. I underestimated the amount of water I would need on the last hike on St. John and regreted it. Oh well, live and learn.

Hello Rich. My husband and I stayed part of our time at Bologno Bay March '01. I have a 19 year old son and will try to give you an opinion based on what he might have thought staying there with his girlfriend! The rooms were fine, average hotel rooms. When we were at Bolongo there was an assortment of ages so I think a 20 yr old would fit right in. Our food was very good, but we felt we could never eat enough to get our money's worth on the all inclusive. Drinks were great as well. We were on St. Thomas for 7 days. We split our time between two places, the other being Pavillions and Pools where each villa has it's own pool. We really liked this and it was a short hike to Sapphire Beach. Like you, my main concern was the beach area. While Bolongo has a nice sand beach, we did not swim there. It was not the just pop in and float around type, and after being at Sapphire Beach we were spoiled by the waters beauty. The highlight of our trip was the Catamaran trip to Honeymoon Bay provided at Bolongo. It was also the worst part, the cat fought high seas on the trip over and it took twice as long. Fortunately I took a dramamine before we headed out. Honeymoon Bay was gorgeous where we swam and snorkled. I wish we could of been on a beach like that, not the one at Bolongo. All in all, we had a great trip, but I would not stay at Bolongo again based only on their beach. If you are going with your girlfriend I think you will have a good time either way and Bolongo is a good value in comparison to others. I would just suggest taking the ferry over to the St. John Beaches a couple extra times to make up for the beach at Bolongo.
