Good morning,
We will be renting from Budget at Sapphire Beach for 12 days. I have talked to my insurance agent and he said I am covered down there on my policy exept for LDW, so I called American Express and they have a package for that that I will be buying for 24.95 for for damage and theft. My insurance agent said I can decline the 24.95 a day charge from the rental company for LDW thru Budget. Does this sound correct to all the renters out there, just want to make sure I am covered for eveything I need , there will be two of us driving and dont want any hidden things popping up or surprises later, would like any information or tips you might have. Thank you:-)

Yes, I have the AMEX coverage and use it too. The $24.95 will cover you for (I believe) up to 42 days. It is for CDW and is primary coverage.
I get a "mini-lease" from Hertz (3-4 months) and use the AMEX coverage plus my own auto insurance policy for liability, since the Hertz policy only covers you for $10,000. The Hertz mini-lease resets every month (so they can get paid), therefore I get charged the AMEX fee each month.
It sure beats the $24.95/day from the rental car agencies........

We're going to STT in a few weeks and had similar questions...First what is LDW and CDW? Secondly, will Budget allow you to bring their cars to SJ as well?
Thanks
Loss Damage Waiver/Collision Damage Waiver.
Yes, Budget allows their vehicles to be taken to STJ. The only agency which doesn't is Hertz.
Enjoy a great vacation!

If you plan to use the AMEX CDW insurance you must first sign up for it through American Express. Since I've had this coverage for years I don't recall how long it takes. Then when you rent the car, using your AMEX card, you will automatically be charged for the coverage each time you rent.
Also, I always check with my personal auto insurance company to assure that they will cover me for liability wherever I travel (and rent a car), since rental car companies only provide $10,000 coverage (Hertz), within their rates. In the event of a serious accident $10,000 won't cover very much.
