Hey guys,
Need some help here. I booked a trip to St. John for my 25th birthday. Heading down there for a week with my girlfriend (she's 24) and just realized that the car rental agencies don't make age exceptions for military folks (like they do in the states). They are all telling me they won't rent to someone under 25 because of Island insurance issues.
Does anyone know of ANY car rental agency in St. John that would let me rent a car at 24 + military. I'm literally leaving St. John on my birthday but they are saying that because I'd be driving for the week, its no good.
I just called AVIS 800 number to their general help line and the guy said it would be fine since I'm gov't employee - but I'm wondering if he doesn't know the specifics about the VI insurance issues. He didn't sound too sure. (The direct line to AVIS in STJ isn't picking up).
Any ideas?

My fiance and I are headed to STJ in August. We are renting a Villa through Destination STJ and they set me up with a car rental through St. John Car Rental. I'm 24 and didn't hear anything about having to be 25. Maybe check with them.
It may vary from state to state in Texas you are not required to be 25 either. I've rented vehicles here many times during the past few years. You might have to be 21 but not sure. I kind of recall being told that if you were under a certain age you could still rent but you were required to purchase the insurance coverage or pay a small fee or something.

Budget says they rent to 21-24 for an extra $10 a day.
Actually it's at Budgetstt, the regular budget site says 25.

Could you check and let me know the results of your search? I originally booked a car through them and when I called back they were like - oh no, under 25 no way. Not in the Virgin Islands.

I spoke with the Villa company who set up my car rental. They confirmed that the only company that rents to those under 25 is Budget on STT. You have to rent from them and take the ferry over to STJ. I believe they have a rental location at the Airport.
