We are planning on a vacation in mid April. We have a 15 year old with us, and were wondering which place is better for someone her age.
Also, does anyone have any ideas of which resort is better as far as beaches, amenities, service, etc. I don't trust the resort web page info all that well.
Your daughter might enjoy the beach and amenities at Sapphire more, there is music and dancing on Sunday afternoons, there is parasailing, jet skis... The beach at Sapphire is nicer in terms of swimming, more of a sandy bottom and clearer water. Renaissance also has good beach activities like windsurfing...
I went to Renaissance for the second year in a row. Last year, I took an 11, 13, and 15 year old. They offer free non-motorized watersports including scuba gear. Also, hammocks, nice gated grounds with iguanas and some cats. A variety of food. Their beach is just so-so but a spectacular snorkeling beach (my favorite), Coki beach is a very short walk away. The hotel rooms are large, are up on a hill, and have a water view from the bacony. The staff was friendly and I felt safe. That's why I returned again this summer. If I ever go to St. Thomas again, I'll pick Renaissance again.
One thing is certain though, Sapphire beach is much more beautiful than the Renaissance beach. I can't tell you what the services were like there though because I only saw it from the road. Neither of them pale in comparison to some other beaches on the islands though.
Hope you have a good trip. I'll be happy to answer any more questions that you might have.
