I am trying to decide where to stay when I travel to St Thomas next month. Do you have any comments on the Renaissance Grand Beach Resort vs Frenchman's Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort

I've never been to the Virgin Islands and will be looking for relaxed atmosphere with optional activites.

I assume both of these hotels have nice beaches and rooms that open up to the beach.

thanks for any input.

Look into Sapphire Beach resort if you are looking for a room that opens up to the beach.

Hi Don,

If you are looking for a resort that has beachfront rooms opening directly onto the beach, you need to consider some others than the ones you are listing. Morningstar is "on the beach" but not what I consider to be "beachfront". As mentioned above try Sapphire Beach or my favorite, Secret Harbour.

Hi Don,
Both places are very nice. You can't go wrong with either of these places and both are on the beach. Its true that they don't have rooms where you open the door and step onto the beach but both properties are ON the beach. Your rooms are steps away. At Frenchman you take an elevator & your on the beach. At The Renaissance, Our room is usually a few feet away - close enough to watch my kids & for them to run in & out on to the beach. Frenchmans has alittle nicer beach but The Renaissance has a much nicer pool, it is newer then Frenchmans and I like the rooms alittle better.
We also will be there next month - for most of the month & we choose the Renaissance. We like everything about it including the location. It is close to Sapphire beach (Great sunday beach party!), Magens Bay, Coral World and Red Hook which makes going to St John & other islands an easy trip. If you stay at Frenchmans your closer to town, Haven Sight and French town.
Have fun!
