I was wondering what the property is really like. Marriott just sold it and I have a reservation there in January. Also, can you walk to Sapphire beach from there?

The Grand Bay Palace Spa & Resort.. formerly Renaissance Grand Beach Resort is absolutely beautiful, I am getting married there this August. I have stayed at Crystal Cove on Saphire Beach, although that was nice, I regretted not staying at the Renaissance. You can't walk to Sapphire Beach. We walked from Red Hook ( Duffy's Love Shack Bar) to Sapphire Beach and it wound up being alot farther than we thought. The taxi drivers kept telling us we were nuts b/c it wasn't safe, but other than the roads being narrow we were fine. At the Renaissance you have a few minute walk to Coki Beach so when you go make sure you follow the path to Coki, I am Jealous !! I wish i could go sooner!! i have pictures of the hotel that give you virtual tours if you would like them e-mail me. Hope you have a GREAT trip!! ~ Jeanne

Here is the article in the Virgin Islands Daily News:

As one of their goals is to turn it into All-Inclusive, I would check back and find out when all that will occur!

Thank you for the article East Ender!

We have reservations at the Ren, in March 2004. When I heard about the change I faxed the hotel asking if they would honor Marriott points reservations. Within one day, I received a reply from the "Grand Bay Palace Resort" stating they would indeed honor our reservation, and they provided me with a new confirmation number.
I'm still concerned as to the renovations and what not discussed in the article, however, in reviewing the Marriott properties in STT, I chose the Ren because of its proximity to Cokie Beach and its small size. (290 rooms) I had the option of changing to one of the other Marriott properties, however, I will stay with my first choice.
As always, thanks for the information, you are very helpful. I enjoy your posts!

What about Pineapple village? Is it actually on the grounds of the resort?

Thanks.
