Y'all,
New poster but frequent reader. I was in STJ last year, as I recall at Trunk Bay, when I asked what I assumed to be a resident, about a group of yachts anchored off the beach. He replied that it was the "Puerto Rican Navy." I thought it humorous at the time, but the comment stuck with me as slightly derogatory. My question is the nature of my inference. Is there a jealously, good natured rivalry, tourist competition or perhaps an unspoken bigotry towards PR? I am planning to return to the USVI next year, but hoped to extend my vacation to include Culebra and Vieques. I am curious about the culture and reception of a visitor from the continent, and your opinions. Please respond honestly. As you may notice from from post name, all live together in agreement with profound cultural differences. Thanks.
Not to worry. It's not derogatory. They get the nneam because they travel in groups like a navy fleet and raft together when they end up at a location They call them that in Vieques and Culebra also. They are well aware of the name!

Thanks, Ronnie. Maybe I just "gee'd" when I should have "haw'd".
Memphis: The National Park rules prohibit anchoring off the beach and the Park Service have been enforcing these rules. They also do not allow two or more boats to raft up on a mooring. You can read the rules here: http://www.nps.gov/viis/rules.htm
