Two examples of why the airlines are killing us here on STX. I work at a large resort with a concierge staff to assist guests with various aspects of their stay and their travel arrangements. One thing we do is confirm return flights. Two stories that happened this week:
1. Guests came to the concierge at about 4 pm to confirm flights for the next morning. With the guest sitting across the desk (thank goodness) she calls and confirms that the flights are leaving at 7 am. She arranges a cab for 5:30 and a wake up call for the guest. Everybody's happy? They were until they got to the airport the next morning and found out that that flight had been cancelled. The sat for more that 4 additional hours waiting for a flight.
2. Guest drops off flight info card we give them. Concierge confirms flights and times and communicates with guest, telling them they are all set. They get to the airport and discover that their flight changed departure times and has already left. Guest was understandably furious and guess with who --- that's right, the hotel.
And luggage is more and more often lagging behind the traveler. On STX, that may mean waiting for 12 - 18 hours for your bags to catch up. Rarely is it lost, just late.
Maybe it's time for the federal government to get back in the business of regulation of the airline industry.
Linda:
What airline changes their flight schedule only hours before the flight?
F.I.
I believe it was American Eagle. I don't think they changed the flight hours before take-off. I think they changed it days earlier and we got bad information.
you are so right about getting bad information! And checking on-line isn't any better. I pick up our guests and always confirm their flight arrival time on-line, in theory so I know what time to leave from the airport
After a couple of embarrassing incidents (it sounds so lame "but the arrival time on their website was wrong!") It is wrong about half the time. And not by a little bit, either.
My biggest offender has been US Air, but Delta gives wrong information, too. It would be better to not have "flight status" available on-line.
I recently purchase tickets for January on American Eagle. When I went online to confirm, they had changed my flight to a different time.I just looked yesterday and they changed it again, and this without notification.I have to buy a matching ticket for my wife but figure by the time January comes around they will have us flying several days apart.
