I'm confused on the whole ferry thing now. We are staying on St. John starting Dec. 9 and planning on going to Miracle on Main St. Friday night in STT. Now it looks like the downtown ferry won't be running but will Red Hook still have their hourly schedule and is it safe later at night? Haven't been to Red Hook in years as the old one creeped me out and we liked the longer ferry ride as opposed to a longer taxi ride.

If you haven't been there since the new Red Hook ferry terminal was opened you're in for a surpise. It's very nice and comfortable waiting for the ferry there. They even have a bar so you can enjoy a cold one while you wait. It's very secure.

Well, until December 13, there is a reduction in the evening Red Hook-Cruz Bay schedule. Check here: http://www.virginislandsdailynews.com/index.pl/article_home?id=17641671

I just used the ferry to St John last Monday. They ran the 9am ferry from downtown to St John but did not make the 11am run. The last returning St John to downtown ferry leaves St John at 3:45pm. So, you can take the 3:45 ferry to downtown, then a taxi to Red Hook to get back to St John later that night. For sure you don't want to miss Miracle on Main Street!

I agree with E Z and Diana, the Red Hook Ferry Terminal is really upscale now.
