My wife and I will be travelling to St. John in October for the first time on our honeymoon. We are very excited and will be staying near Coral bay. I would like to take her out to a fairly nice restaurant one night to celebrate and would like to ask for a few recommendations. Would anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!

Chateau Bordeaux offers everything you want (great food, unbelievable views and it is close to Coral Bay). The romance is up to you but CB is a great starter.

My husband and I honeymooned on St. John in July and would recommend Zozo's above all others. The food and service were excellent as well as the ambiance. We made reservations at Chateau Bordeaux while we were there because our hotel recommended it, drove by to check it out beforehand and decided on Zozo's instead. Chateaux Bordeaux may have an excellent view but it's appearance leaves much to be desired!

Chateau Bordeaux does look a little "rustic" from the outside, but once you go in, it is very nicely decorated, and the view is incredible. The food is very good--though expensive, and the wine list is priced high too. Service was excellent when we ate here. I think it would be a very romantic place for you to go, and it is the closest "fancy" restaurant if you are out in Coral Bay.

In Cruz Bay, if Tage is open when you are there, I would highly recommend it. Excellent food, superb service, and terrific atmosphere. It is my favorite restaurant on St. John.

Know what's a fun place that is good and relatively inexpensive?

I'll tell you:

Texas Coast. It's right there when you exit the STT ferry. Good food, not world class, but very good conch fritters and pretty good Mexican. It's better than I thought it would be and not all that expensive.

I would also recommend Rhumb Lines. It's in the center of town in Meada's Plaza. Almost across the street from Cafe Roma. A beautiful outdoor setting. Food was excellent and the prices were not out of sight.

Gosh, I'm not sure that Rhumb Lines or Texas Coast would be the suggestion for a nice restaurant to celebrate an anniversary, but that may be me! 😉

Tage or Stone Terrace for the best food and service, Zozo's if you must have a nice view, too.

I know the dress in St. John is casual, but if we wanted to really dress up one night for dinner, what woul dbe the best place to go? Or is it better just to plan to be casual?

A further question with kmorg's inquiry - what is considered "dressed up" on St. John?

For instance, for dinner at Tage, Stone Terrace, Chateau Bordeaux, Zozo's what is the dress code? Slacks and collared shirt for men? Sundress for ladies?

If we're talking jacket with tie and little black dress with pearls, we'll just go with Fish Trap or Rhumb Lines and shorts and t-shirts.

Hello Fred,

I would say dressed up on St. John and also on St. Thomas/St. Croix for men is nice slacks & polo shirt and for ladies a nice dress or nice pants and blouse. For men a little dressier might be a long sleeve shirt with or without tie (wedding attendance, church, work/meetings, nice dinner).

Jackets in the islands... perhaps worn at big fundraiser dinners and balls, weddings, or if you job requires it.

Caneel Bay has some dress regulations, I heard requiring jacket at one of the restaurants... otherwise you are likely to find a diverse clothing style (casual to island dressy) at most restaurants.

Islander,

Thanks. That is confirmation of what I've been thinking. Probably won't be at Caneel, so I believe we'll be okay with what we planned to pack.

Fred: No matter where you go there will be someone MORE dressed up, someone LESS dressed up and someone in shorts!

As Islander mentioned, 'real dress up' on the islands seems to be reserved for special functions. Even some wedding parties are held in shorts and sandels! Turtle Bay in Caneel requires the jacket and is probably the only 'dress up' restaurant in the area.
