I want to spend the week between Christmas and New Year of 2001 in the VI. I have never traveled to the VI, so my knowledge is limited. There would be three in my party, my wife, my 21 year old daughter with Downs, and myself. We would prefer something on the beach with two bedrooms and a kitchen. My questions are, how much should I budget for our stay in a mid to upper class condo? Or is there any condos in the VI? Are there any American style grocery stores in the VI? Can you walk anywhere you need to go in safety? Can anybody recommend a place like I have described?
There are condos in the Vi, there are several large 'American' style grocery stores, and no you can not walk everywhere. It is safe to walk pretty much in most areas however the island is too big and hilly to walk everywhere you may want to go. A rental car or taxi is a better idea. There are several condo associations in the East End. There are also private villa rentals throughout the island.

There are condo rentals scattered around on the beaches for rental. The holiday is the most expensive time and some require 2 weeks rental at that time. Expect $350 and up per night for a 2 bedroom with kitchen and the cost can go as high as you want. Grocery stores are somewhat similar to state side, although the customer service has a lot to be desired, once here you will understand. If you are leaving your complex a car or taxi is required.
