We are looking to rent a Wrangler or Vitara for our trip next month. Any recommendations as to who to go with? Close proximity (walking distance) to the ferry dock would be a bonus. We have to catch the 6 or 7am ferry on our way out...and I'm not thinking that anyone will be at the car rental place that early to drop us off; so we'll be hoofin' it 🙂

We've always rented thru Caribbean Villas in the past, but this time they didn't have any of the smaller vehicles available.

Thanks in advance,
Mandy

Courtesy Car Rental was recommended to us. 1-866-776-4228. www.courtesycarrental.com.

We use Bougainvillea Leasing (the Donald Schnell folks) for Wranglers, and when we've had to catch an early (8am) ferry, we've been able to drop off the keys at their place and walk down to the ferry dock. No problems.

Their vehicles have always been in tip-top shape.

Hope this helps

Courtesy is a couple blocks from the dock and you can park in the lot any time. The jeeps look like all the other companies, a few dents and scratches. No complaints with them.

We've rented from Conrad Sutton for the past five years. His cars are newer models and clean. Also, he lets you
park in his lot when you come to town....

I second the vote for Conrad Sutton. We just returned yesterday and rented a Wrangler from them. Nice jeep, great folks. They're right across from the Lime Inn and I walked from the ferry dock to pick up the Jeep while my crew waited for bags off the ferry, so it's definitely nice and close. Plus, getting to park there for free anytime is a very nice perk (the pay lot right next to them charges $10 to park). I believe we parked there for at least some time every day.

I reserved online, got my confirmation via email and had no issues whatsoever. $390 for the week--$404 total out of pocket (forget what the $14 charge was for but it sure beat the zillions of fees charged by mainland rental agencies!). http://www.conradcars.com/

Good luck and enjoy your trip!

We had a good experience using Conrad at the Westin. They had the best price on the Jeep Liberty. We also love St John Car Rental. We received excellent service from their staff last year. There was some sort of problem with our vehicle (can't remember what) so we brought it back the next day and they gave us an upgrade at no additional charge. They handled everything quickly and efficiently. It was great!

We also used Cool Breeze once and had a problem with our vitara. The alignment was way off and the brake pads were worn down quite a bit...both quite common issues with the rentals on the island...and they also swapped out our rental in a flash.

So long as you use one of the larger companies, I don't think you can go wrong. I rented from a small company once and when we arrived they didn't have our requested rental available, so they referred us to Cool Breeze. I was really irritated and we had to pay than we anticipated for our rental, but I learned a lesson. Don't book with a less reputable company. Just stick with the larger, quality companies and you'll be fine regardless.
