We love beautiful beaches. Also, I would like to have beautiful water for swimming and snorkeling. What do you recommend?

Lynn, St. Thomas has really nice waters- clear, warm and beautiful. Coki Beach next to Coral World has great snorkeling. St. John is a must if you have time- when I visited the islands I spent two days in St. John, the waters there are great, and the island is less commercialized than St. Thomas. You could also go on a day sail with a charter company- they will take you out to snorkeling spots. Hope the information helps have a great trip!

The Indians Rock Formation east (I think) of St. John was spectacular for snorkling. You need to rent a boat and anchor at the rocks. The water was clear and colbat blue with lots of critters.

Nic, Walking distance from Red Hook would be Sapphire Beach.

All beaches in the Virgin Islands are public property, HOWEVER the land around the beach can be privately owned and gated therefore blocking land entrance to the beach. Access by sea is fine, however you may not tresspass on private property to access a beach unless you get permission.

we spent a week in st. thomas at the sapphire beach resort. after reading some of the reviews i was hesitant on staying there. we were pleasantly surprised. our unit was clean and well maintained. the view was just spectacular. we found the people there to be very helpful and pleasant. our week went very fast and would definitely go back again.

TK: At the best of times, walking from Sapphire to Red Hook is not for the faint of heart. There are no sidewalks, the road twists and turns and goes up and down- and it's a busy traffic road. After partying at Duffy's or aywhere else in Red Hook at night - absolutely no way.

To get TO Red Hook from Sapphire during the day you can hop a safari bus for $1 but coming back is a different story as the safaris travel in one direction only so you would have to get one in Red Hook and then go with it on an "island tour" to get back to where you started. A regular taxi can bring you back to Sapphire faster but more expensively.

Getting around the island certainly isn't impossible without a vehicle but it's time-consuming and, if you take regular taxis everywhere, expensive. Best recommendation at all times is to rent a car so you can explore to your heart's content. Cheers!

Sapphire Beach is a gorgeous beach, so that's within walking distance of Red Hook.

DO NOT walk the street home if you're at Duffy's and staying at Sapphire....there are no pavements.

If you're leaving Duffy's, just look for a Taxi...it's close by and shouldn't cost you much at all. We were lucky enough to have a local drive us to duffy's and back from Duffy's when we stayed at Sapphire last June.

There's plenty of Taxi's in Red Hook...don't worry.
