We are seniors who would like to visit for a week stay at a reasonable, clean place. Where and how much does a car cost to rent for a week? We would like to take the ferry to St. John...where is that and how much does that cost. THANK YOU for any information we would greatly appreciate you thoughts and suggestions. Bev

www.vrbo.com and www.homeaway.com are two websites where you can rent a villa and they are actually similar in price to a hotel, but with the comforts of home. The north side is a very beautiful and quiet side of the island. You may also like Mahogany Run condos which are on the golf course. You can find out a lot of info on this website.

As far as car rentals go, you can rent from the airport or Dependable Car rental is a very nice local company. You can find their info on-line too.

The ferry to St. John is in Redhook which is on the east side of the island. You can also find out more info on this website too.

You will love the US Virgin Islands!

Hi Bev! When I first moved to St. Thomas, I stayed in a short-term rental in Wintberg. The apartment is clean, updated and the owners are friendly and on site. Their web site is www.wintbergplace.com. Since moving down here, all of my family members have stayed at Wintberg Place. The weekly price cannot be beat - $525 per week! A car rental would be a must but the location on the island is very convenient :).

Hi everyone I am going to be moving to STT in the next 2 weeks. I have not secured a perm. apt. yet but am looking in the east end area. My question is about 2 Sandals they have a very reasonable monthly rate 1000.00 includes all. I would think with in a month I would be able to find an apt. Since I am relocating and will also be looking for a job I am on a fairly limited budget so a nightly hotel rate seems a little much. Is anyone familiar with 2 Sandals any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Amy

Yes sandals Is alright. Short walk to red hook, and easy to get the safari .

Here's an affordable East End option:

The ferry to St John is $6 per person each way.

It's advisable to rent a car.

I'm with Margy as in you can find a place just to lay your head or you can find a place that has all the amenities!
I highly recommend: http://www.mclaughlinanderson.com/
As for a vehicle, the price depends on what type of car you get! Personally, I would say to stay away from Dollar and Thrifty, they are hit or miss and if you happen to be a miss, it can make or break your stay.
Good luck in finding exactly what is right for you and be sure to let us know!
