My husband and I are here at the Westin. It's as beautiful as everyone has stated. It rained yesterday and today it rained so hard, some of the roads are impassable. As of now, the bays are very muddy, so no snorkeling and we have no idea when they will clear. I won't be back on the rest of the day, but I will try to get on in the next few days if anyone has questions. It's $5.00 a pop, so I don't think I'll use it too often! The pool is wonderful, as are the hot tubs. Food is as expensive as everyone stated. Ate at Margarita Phil's last night. Delicious!

sgp: I think that "Jaws" is what has scared everyone to death. Folks come to the Caribbean and think that a Great White is patroling out there...just...waiting...for...them! I am not going to say you won't see a shark, but chances are slim. And as long as you refrain from spear fishing, they will not be interested in you. When you want to think about something dangerous, think about walking up stairs, riding a bike, or driving down to the 7-11. Those are dangerous activities! The media has done a disservice by undermining our ability to assess risks and benefits.

Overall the Virgin Islands are a very safe place- no poisonous snakes, no crocodiles, no bears, no rabies. The land sharks will get you though!!!

Oh, I can't tell you how much I appreciated not encountering any ticks, chiggers, or poison ivy. We live in a beautiful part of the country and it would also be like paradise if it weren't for those pests! I guess you have flies there too, but I never saw one. That was nice as well!

I was there in June and in May of 2004. One night a week they had an open air movie. Not on the beach, but on a grassy area. Can't remember what the movies were, but had the impression it was something more for the kids. Not sure if they still do it.

The only band I remember either week was one hired for a private party. Night life is pretty quite there. You're probably better off going to Cruz Bay or take a ferry over to STT.

Have a great time! We're going back in June. Can't wait!
