I read a lot about round trip taxi fare being twice the one way price plus a certain amount per minute of waiting. But what if you want to go somewhere for a few hours? I assume certain places are popular enough that there are taxis waiting routinely. What locations on St. Thomas and St. John would regularly have taxis available? Thanks for the info.

Also, how easy is it to get a taxi from one place to another on St. John (say, from Trunk Bay to Maho Bay) with neither location being Cruz Bay?

Magens, Coki, Sapphire, town, Red Hook, on St Thomas all have taxis waiting.

Sorry, don't know about St John.

On our recent trip to St. John we rented a jeep simply for our convenience of going where we wanted when we wanted, however, I did notice that there are PLENTY of taxis waiting at pretty much all the beaches. If you aren't on a schedule and have the flexibility to wait a bit if necessary you should have no problem getting from beach to beach via taxi. Taxi's seem to drive all over the island making frequent stops at beaches. We saw them at Trunk, Cinnamon, Maho, the entrance to Salomon & Honeymoon, Waterlemon Cay,Salt Pond, the only time we didn't see taxis waiting were the out of the way places like Vi's beach and Lameshur.

If you can I would suggest renting a vehicle simply because you can go on your own time and if you are planning on beach hoping you'll probably save money in the long run rather than paying a taxi every time you want to move. Plus there are some really great hidden beaches that taxis don't seem readily available to transport from.

Hope this helps
