I have been following this Forum for some month and have had a lot of good information, thank you all for that!
But I still have some questions, and even though I know my English isn’t perfect, I have decided to try if someone here can give me some advice.

I am really a Newbi, have visited many places in the world, but have never been in USA or in the Caribbean. But caused to my interest for the history of the former Danish West India I have persuaded my husband to go there in our summer vacation in July. We will stay 3 days on STT, then 10 days on STJ and finally 5 days on STX.

Our plan is to go to STJ the fourth of July in the morning, so we can see the carnival.
We have rented a jeep on St. John, but the company has told us that we cannot have the jeep on the carnival day because they are closed.

So will it be possible for us to have a taxi on the carnival day, or what are we going to do??
We shall stay at Serendip Condos in Cruz Bay the first two days.

Can we risk that the ferry from Reed Hook to St. John is filled up because people from STT are going to the carnival??

Another question. We would like to try the Reef Bay trail. We are not trained hikers, so I think we will prefer to be sailed back. Do we then need to have the guided tour, or are there other possibilities??

Hope for answers

Linne

I think if you get to the ferry early enough you should be able to get on. You can always rent a boat yourself and go where ever you want. Hope this helps, Leticia

18 days in the USVI...I'm jealous 🙂

Reef Bay Hike
If you want to take the Parks ferry back, you need to take the guided tour. Definitely worth the effort.

Linne, I think you'll find that it is very hectic travelling around on July 4th carnival. I would definitely not rent a car on that day. Are you arriving for your first day on STJ on the fourth. If you are come early and just left of the ferry dock you'll find taxi to get you to your destination.

Then just spend the day enjoying the carnival, carnival village and at night 9.00 pm the fireworks. It's quite a good show.

Not to worry on the ferries since they will be running out of schedule.....to read all the time.

It's a good day on island and why we go every year at this time.

have some pix of carnival at

We stay at Gallows Point and bbq. Anyone's invited just bring food. 🙂

Thank you for your answers. It seems as if we do not need to be worried about the transportation to STJ and to our condo, and that we have to take the guided tour to Reef Bay. Good to know.
Thank you Promoguy for letting me se the pictures from the carnival. I can see we have something to look forward too. But we are really looking forward to the whole trip. We are so glad that we have found the forums. They made us change our planes, so that we will stay some more days in USVI than planned from the beginning and to spend most of the days on STJ. We were not aware that STJ was not like STT. We like nature, snorkelling and not too many tourists and according to the forum we can find this on STJ.

Now I am only worried about the bug situation. I have seen that this year it is very bad.
And I do not know where we can buy the different stuff, which is recommended in this forum.
I think I will post a new topic to see, if I can get some help.
