Hello!

Lia and I will be arriving in STT in May. We are planning on taking
the ferry from Charlotte Amalie to West End Tortola. Does anyone
know ~ how long this trip is? Also, is there a supermarket / grocery store near the Charlotte Amalie ferry dock? Is it within walking distance? Thanks for any info you can provide.

take care,
Mike

I never saw a grocery store near the CA ferry dock. Try to arrange your ferry travel from Red Hook. There's a pretty good grocery store right across the street from the ferry dock there.

There is a grocery store at Crown Bay Marina - Gourmet Galery - if you're dead set on heading to Tortola from CA.

I second Larry's advice of Marina Market in Red Hook. Do be aware that there are meats & veggies that aren't allowed into Tortola (for whatever reason) so what you may buy might be confiscated when you clear customs. There are a couple of decent grocery stores in Road Town - and you won't have to haul stuff on the ferry and pay freight as well as perhaps duty on them

Food for thought... 🙂

Definitely do your grocery shopping on Tortola, remembering that the British Virgin Islands and the United States Virgin Islands are separated internationally and that transportation of most foodstuffs between the two is highly regulated by international law.

having sent food ahead back in the days of no grocery stores, it is a real hassle. Take the advice of STT Resident and buy your food stuff when you get there. You will be very happy you did.

Have a great trip
