Was just looking at the website for Breath, as I recall someone recommending this sail on a previos thread. Just wondering, on a sunset sail, is that typically just sailing and not snorkeling and such?
Breath shows their sunset sails from 4-7pm so I'm assuming that is all sailing time, not stops at islands or for snorkeling. Would anyone who's done something like that, know the answer?

Thanks.

tried to edit this but I'm not sure how!
So another post on my original 🙂

Does anyone have any pictures to share of this boat or any other they took for a sunset sail?

Thanks.

Hello Mary Beth,

I think your assumption is correct... the sunset sail is more about sailing, enjoying the sunset rather then snorkeling and island hoping. If you are interested in island hopping & snorkeling by sail you might do a daysail, they are usually either a half day or all day sail, so more time to stop at a couple spots. Some sail operators offer dinner sunset sails, some offer drinks alone like a Champagne sunset sail for example. You might want to contact Breath and ask what is possible, what they offer. 😉

Mary Beth,
Check out these sources: www.sailbreath.com or email them at [email protected]. Their brochure which I have in front of me lists half day sails, sunset sails, moonlight sails and pirate sails. There are also 2 phone #'s for them 340-693-5257 or 340-777-5414. Breath is an anomaly in the islands. Not a cookie cutter white fiberglass, truly a good looking boat with lots of character.
Sitting in the cockpit of our boat I love to watch Breath head out and then come back in with sails flying.

Thank you both.... we may do a day sail but I was asking this time specifically about a sunset sail. Thinking about giving that to my boyfriend for a Christmas or b-day present since we are planning a trip there next year.

Marie, thanks for the info. I have a friend going to STJ next week, I will ask her to get me a brocheure. Sounds lovely.

You should check out Captain Phil on the WAYWARD SAILOR(www.waywardsailor.net)... although we didn't do the sunset sail, we did the all day and it was fabulous. He is amazing and I am sure the sunset would be equally as wonderful - especially considering he takes only SIX people out at a time. His web site describes it in detail. Hope you and your boyfriend have a great trip!

You won't be disappointed with Breath. It is a true sailing ship, unlike many of the other "boats" that offer day sails and sunset sails. We took a day sail in May that lasted 11 hours --- and we could have happily stayed on another 11 hours and been thrilled to do it! Nice captain and crew, good eats, lots of local information. Your boyfriend will be thrilled if you take him sailing on Breath!

My family and I took a daysail on Breath a number of years ago and had a bad experience with them. Destinations that were promised and never came to fruition, lunch terrible, crew hungover unfriendly,They kept to themselves a majority of the time. Cleanliness of the boat and smell were not up to expectations, lateness in leaving, etc. I would highly advise against it. To top it off, it was no bargain, we could not wait to get back. I feel there are much better daysails around. Keep in mind they live on this boat so that may give you a different perspective. The boat is not a great sailing vessel either since it's a ketch.

Good Luck

Wow , did you sail on the same Breath as I did?? Thay do not live on the boat!! Breath is one of the most beautiful sail boats around those Islands. Peter Mullenberg, the owner and builder of Breath, is also the most seasoned sailer, I felt very safe, even when we came into a squall. Leaving late or not making destinations may have a lot to do with weather conditions or congestion at some popular snorkel sites. Breath will sail you anywhere you want to go
and as a lontime local, Peter knows all the secluded spots. The storys of high seas adventure are worth going on Breath. I don't know what you love about sailing, but I loved the way Breath rode the waves and cut through the high seas. You would be lucky to have the oppurtunity to sail on this beautiful boat.
Good sailing, fair winds
Jules
