Could you please suggest me a well stocked supermarket and/or food center in St. Thomas?
Thank you.
For liqure, sodas and beer Cost U Less they also have new produce section , and if you are on east end or St. John the Marina Market for meats and deli items, Plaza Extra for general food stuff and what you can't find at Cost U Less. Hope this helps!
Peg
There are also stores like Pueblo (like a Winn-Dixie or KashnKarry type) or Gourmet Gallery (pricier but has name brands and other speciality items)
Is Marina Market open on St. John? Last I was there they were closed and the liquor store that took over the property was gone.
Cheers, RickG
Red Hook: Marina Market is an excellent small market, even for produce - a fairly large produce section has fresh items and tropical fruit, too. They have good salads (incl chicken salad, etc) in a fresh deli case.
Just past Red Hook in an area that I cannot name (close): Food Center - large supermarket good for basic supermarket items - dry goods. I do NOT recommend it for meats, poultry, fish and produce.
TuTu area (I guess this is Tutu): Cost-U-Less has a FABULOUS produce section and the prices are surprisingly reasonable. I was absolutely shocked with delight on my last visit to discover this large produce supply - a big selection from tropical thinsg to stateside things- and everything was crisp and colorful - I went NUTS (lol) - I had no idea they were getting a fresh produce place and would never have imagined it would have been this great. I second the nomination for Cost U Less for water, sodas, beer, liquor. They also have great looking meats - packs of chicken parts for grilling, etc...and the prices are better than elsewhere. I also buy shredded cheese for my pizzas here - comes already shredded in bags. Orange juice, milk, etc. No club membership needed. Liquor prices are just a few cents to a dollar better than K-Mart for the items I was pricing.
Havensight: Gourmet Gallery is best for fresh fish (in my opinion) - I also bought some really yummy salmon here, which, of course, was previously frozen to get it here - but it really tasted fresh and the coloring was excellent. It isn't cheap, but is about the same price as I pay at my fish market in Philly when there's no sale. Also, this place has great salads (chicken, pasta, etc) and a wide selection of specialty and high-end items like special infused oils and such.
Any of these places are very good if you just avoid the meats, fish, poultry and produce at Food Center.
Hey Rick
Just to let you know Marina Market is closed.

Pia, Is Marina Market closed for good or just temporarily?
I just talked to the office at the STT store and she said that the STJ store IS closed indefinitely, but the STT store is still open 364 days per year (no X-mas).
I believe it is closed for good and the building is currently on the MLS (for sale)
