Hello All,

I am planning a proposal in May in St. John. I'm thinking of a beach proposal. I will in be in St. John for only one day of our cruise.

I'm looking for suggestions/recommendations. I've heard Honeymoon beach is great and not over crowded. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREAT!!!!

I'm not sure how much time you have to deal with, but, I'd recommend "Rhumb Lines" restaurant, for any intimacy, downtown. The food that I had there was wonderful, and the atmosphere makes you feel like a pearl in an oyster. Even though you may have a whole day, don't forget that you're on "island-time". Slow goes it. It might cost you a taxi ride, but my favorite beach is Maho.
Smiles-, and Good Luck!!!
MJ
P.S.- What about Soloman Bay?

We met friends from a cruise ship in March at Caneel Bay. It was easy for them to get a cab there and back. Yo can walk to Honeymoon Beach from there too.

Cheers, RickG

I got engaged there in Dec 06, then married there in July 07. STJ is a great spot to get engaged, the entire island is beautiful, so really any spot you pick will be great. My now husband proposed at the Bordeaux Mt. overlook place - I believe it's the highest spot on STJ... it's where the Cheatu Bordeaux restaurant is located. There's a little jewelry shop, smoothie place and a look out where you can see down to Coral Bay and the BVI's.. I think it's one of the prettiest, most romantic spots on the island. You really have to get to it by jeep - not sure if a taxi would take you that far.. but it's an incredible spot. Probably takes 15 - 20 min from Cruz Bay?? Soloman Beach would also be good if you get there early in the day.. you can only get there by hiking (20 or so min from town), or boat so it's not usually crowded, especially early in the day.. and it's really a beautiful spot. The trail head is right next to the National Park dock in town, I think it's about a mile? Anyway, like I said, anywhere you pick will be incredible.

Try this:

Have her ring in a box, in a plastic bag...bury it under your towel in the sand on the beach...complain that you are uncomfortable a few times, wiggle around a bit to make yourself more comfortable, and after a few minutes of this, when the time is right...pull back your towel, start digging, and then act very surprised when you find it...you'll both be "Ooh'ing" and "Ahh'ing" and be all amazed that you could find something like that...then, since yer on yer knees anyway...pop the question!

A friend of mine did it that way when he was here with his girlfriend...married and one kid so far!

Thanks for all the great recommendations!

Do you have any suggestions/comments on the ideas below.

1.) Are there any resorts on St. John that could accommodate us for the day. Set us up something nice on the beach with Champagne, fruits and a personal waiter for the afternoon.

2.) I was thinking after the proposal a couples massage on the beach would be great! Is there anywhere on St. John that does massages on the beach?

3.) Are there any sand sculptors on the island for hire that could build something on the beach?

I think we will have approximately 4-5 hours in St. John to be safe on time. I'm thinking a romantic afternoon followed by a party on the cruise ship when we set sail. We are cruising with another couple we went to college with. It should make the party afterwords a great time. Let me know your thoughts/suggestions.

Thanks!!!

With all due respect to your plans for a full day, I believe the proposal and hopeful response is what the day is all about. All that "other stuff" will be long forgotten and might push aside what you have both done. Enjoy the moment and the surroundings you have chosen. Relax and get excited all at the same time.
To answer your questions, Caneel is probably your best bet for setting something up on a nice select beach within their resort. They can also arrange for massage. Not familiar with any sand castle troupe on STJ. All that said, 4-5 hours is not that much time to fit everything in and allow time to enjoy it but to each his own...

Good luck and good life.

Great Advice!

I think I might be over planning a bit. I did some research on the Caneel Bay resort. It looks like an excellent location in between a number of beaches including Honeymoon beach. Does anyone know if there is an admission or fee at the resort.

For instance, if we went to Honeymoon Beach is it possible to grab a drink at Caneel Bay or is it for guests staying there only.

Also, I noticed a ferry schedule on the Caneel Bay website. Is it possible to take a ferry directly to Caneel Bay?

Thanks Everyone!!!!

No admission fee although some services are for guests only. You are better off entering Caneel and then going to Honeymoon from there (short walk). I believe the bars are open access in Caneel but you can't get anything at Honeymoon.
