This is long...bare with me!:-)
We made Villa reservations in Feb. We recently found some things out about the villas, which made us reconsider our choice. So, we found new accommodations, and contacted the villas to cancel. Our first request to cancel was April 8 and we are WELL within the agreed time to do so, and still receive a refund. A person form the villa called several days later to tell us that they over booked, moved us to another location owned by someone different, and that they were given our deposit, and we must contact them. (I was never made aware they were moving us to another company or person, or asked if this was okay with us, I had NO idea) We sent the first email as instructed, and never received a reply. A second emil was sent to the "original" villas, they replied several days later stating they would be meeting with the other owners this past weekend to figure out how to get the money back. The weekend came and went, without work. I sent ANOTHER email tuesday night, requesting they contact us asap, and could they please just refund our credit card. I have still yet to here from these people.
I'm hesitant to name the company, I don't want to "bash" or step on any toes. I'm just unsure of the appropriate way to proceed? Is it too early to contact the BBB? Am I being unreasonable in expecting to have this resolved be now, or at least a plan of resolution?
Thank you for your advice, you guys are always a great help!
Holy TYPOS!!! 🙂
I'm not an idiot I swear! I meant to say the weeked passed without WORD
and we have yet to HEAR from them, lol...
I suppose I should proofread BEFORE I post:-)
Whew, that's a scary one for all of us that rent villas. But I will say, I've had nothing but good luck with Villa Rental companies. Of course I like some better than others.
I'd call the Villa Owner/Agency that you rented from and tell them you're going to call your Credit Card Company. If they took your credit card, then they have a merchant's agreement with VISA/Mastercard, etc. Your Credit Card company may be willing to refund the money to you and then charge the rental agency.

If this deposit was given by Credit Card and it's within the 60 days to dispute the charge then I would do as the above poster says and contact your CC company.

Kasey, by switching from the villa you chose to a villa you didn't choose, the rental agency, I believe they have already voided their contract. (Read the fine print). There is usually a provision that allows them to switch you if the villa you chose becomes uninhabiatable (i.e. fire etc.) If the suggestions above don't pan out, I would mention their name LOUDLY and OFTEN on this and other message boards, the BBB, and anybody else that will listen. Don't under-estimate the power of your voice (lobbed in the right direction,)
Actually, in your case, "without WORK" is apropos!
If you used a credit card, you should refuse to honor the charge, and let the CC company know why. Include a copy of your rental terms plus any corroborating correspondence.
If a villa rental company moves you for ANY reason, they (ethically) should TELL YOU AS SOON AS THEY KNOW, not at a later date. It looks to me like you may not have found out about that until after you arrived.
Thank you to everyone who replied! Just to update, I called again today and, much to my surprise, caught a real person answering the phone!!! I was informed they just received a check, deposited it, and would credit our card. Hopefully this will be the end of it! I will give them until the end of the coming week before contacting our credit card company. Thanks again to everyone who answered!
Kasey
Bully for you!!!
So glad it worked out for you!!
